摘要: A shape-memory device manufactured from shape memory material includes multiple activation temperatures. The multiple activation temperatures arise from either the heat treatment of the device during manufacturing, or by combining different elements with different activation temperatures. To manufacture a shape-memory device with multiple activation temperatures, it is formed into a first shape. A first portion of the shape-memory device is heated to a first temperature, and a second portion of the shape-memory device is heated to a second temperature. The shape-memory device is then worked into a second shape. Accordingly, the first portion has a first transition temperature, and the second portion has a second transition temperature. In use, the shape-memory device is placed into a desired position. Energy is applied such that the first portion, second portion, or both portions are transformed.

摘要: A smoking article, such as a cigarette, includes a lighting end and a mouth end. The lighting end is a longitudinally extending segment comprising smokable material that is intended to be lit and burned, and the resulting smoke generated by the burning of that smokable material is intended to be drawn into the mouth of the smoker through the mouth end of smoking article. A mouth end piece is located at the mouth end of the smoking article, and the mouth end piece allows the smoking article to be placed in the mouth of the smoker to be drawn upon. The smoking article further incorporates an aerosol-generation system that is located between the lighting end segment and the mouth end piece. The aerosol-generation system includes (i) a heat generation segment located adjacent to the lighting end segment, and (ii) an aerosol-generation region located between the heat generation segment and the mouth end piece. The aerosol-generation region incorporates an aerosol-forming material (e.g., glycerin and flavors). The lighting end segment is in a heat exchange relationship with the heat generation segment such that burning smokable material within the lighting end segment can ignite a combustible fuel element of the heat generation segment. The heat generation segment is in a heat exchange relationship with the aerosol-generation region such that heat generated by the burning fuel element acts to volatilize aerosol-forming material for aerosol formation.

摘要: A sediment control wattle including a sheath formed of a geotextile, the sheath containing a filler media. An apron extends from the sheath providing an element that may be pinned or otherwise attached to a terrain in a manner that reduces migration and flow of fluid and sediment underneath the wattles. The sediment control wattle may also include a joint wrap which permits adjacent wattles to be joined to form a sediment control system in a manner that reduces migration and flow of fluid and sediment between wattles.

摘要: The present invention relates to instrumentation and uses thereof for collection of cuttings from cutting tools. Cuttings may be from precious metals, toxic or hazardous substances, or from living tissue such as bone. In a particular embodiment of collecting bone cuttings, the present invention includes instrumentation used with a drill bit so that bone cuttings (195) are aseptically collected in a collection chamber (110) for subsequent transplantation purposes. When in use, marrow and bone cuttings (195) are drawn into the flutes (170) of a drill bit (150), carried up the bore of the instrument tip (100) and collect in the collection chamber (110). The flutes of the drill bit (150) can be cleared of residual tissue through the use of a rotating flute wiper (160) that rotates with the drill bit (150) when drilling or when the drill bit (150) is withdrawn from the instrument. In this embodiment, use of the device allows collection of vital bone tissue for reconstruction of bone defects, fractures, or fixation of orthopedic or dental implants that contact bone.

摘要: A method for filtering suspended materials from a cooking substance, e.g. oil or shortening, in a central filtration system 100. The method including the steps of (i) receiving the cooking substance in a first tank 106 from a deep fryer and filtering in a first filtration stage through a separator 112 and returning to the first tank 106; (ii) transitioning to a second stage by filling a second tank 118; (iii) filtering in a second filtration stage through filters 120 and 112; and (iv) holding the cooking substance in a heated tank 126 before returning to the deep fryer. Each stage commences when a certain condition is met, e.g. a predetermine level or weight of cooking substance in a tank or a predetermined clarity of the cooking substance.
