摘要: The intramedullary fixation device for use in fixing the relative position between a tubular bone and an adjoining bone has, according to the present invention, an intramedullary nail that is inserted into the medullary canal of the tubular bone whose position is to be fixed, an elongated blade for insertion into the adjoining bone whose position is to be fixed relative to that of the tubular bone, a coupling element for fixing and locking the relative position of the nail and blade after their insertion, and a means for locating and positioning within the bones to-be-treated the nail and blade. Furthermore, the blade has a cross-sectional shape that is configured in consideration of the geometry of the bone into which the blade is to-be-placed and so as to enhance the ability of the blade to stabilize the bone, and these elements are configured so that they do not have to be decouple during the process of inserting the nail and blade.

摘要: An external proximal femoral prosthesis for total hip arthroplasty (THA) is described, which fundamentally comprises a shell configured a hollow, thin-wall, asymmetric bell shape and a plurality of tension anchor means. An inner transverse cross contour of the shell forms a cavity, which could be affixable to a profile of outer surface of the area of neck, trochantic bed and calcar of the proximal femur. A neck portion of the shell is compatible with acetabular components (ball and cup). The prosthesis is mechanically fastened by tension anchor means during the operation and further biologically secured by in-growing bone through the side holes on the shell wall and into its interior coating surface of implant wall thereafter. The loading force on the femoral head would be well transferred and distributed on the shell and then directly conducted into the cortical bone of the femoral shaft therearound.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for arthroscopic tenodesis using sockets in bone created by retrograde cutting. A dual-sided rotary drill cutter is used to form a tibial and femoral socket by retrograde and antegrade cutting, respectively. The method is used to form a pair of sockets in the joint, which accept the respective ends of a replacement graft. The dual-sided cutter is configured such that it cuts in both directions (retrograde and antegrade) and does not need to be flipped over between forming the respective sockets.

摘要: A bone anchoring element comprising a shaft (2) for anchoring in a bone, with a plurality of barb elements (7) arranged in at least one helical line around the shaft axis (M) is described, wherein said barb elements are elastically movable relative to the shaft. The bone anchoring element (1) is easy to press into a core hole bore in a bone. The barb elements (7) act in a similar manner as do the threads on a conventional bone screw and thus provide for depth positioning. Moreover, the barb elements at the same time secure the bone anchoring element and prevent it from sliding-out.

摘要: Systems, devices and methods are disclosed for treating fractures. The systems, devices and methods may include one or both of an implant, such as an intramedullary nail, and a fastening assembly, such as a lag screw and compression screw assembly. The implant in some embodiments has a proximal section with a transverse aperture and a cross-section that may be shaped to more accurately conform to the anatomical shape of cortical bone and to provide additional strength and robustness in its lateral portions, preferably without requiring significant additional material. The fastening assembly may be received to slide, in a controlled way, in the transverse aperture of the implant. In some embodiments, the engaging member and the compression device are configured so that the compression device interacts with a portion of the implant and a portion of the engaging member to enable controlled movement between the first and second bone fragments. This configuration is useful for, among other things, compressing a fracture.

In one arrangement, the systems and methods deploy an expandable body in association with a bone cement nozzle into the bone, such that both occupy the bone interior at the same time. In another arrangement, the systems and methods deploy multiple expandable bodies, which occupy the bone interior volume simultaneously. Expansion of the bodies form cavity or cavities in cancellous bone in the interior bone volume.

摘要: An intramedullary nail for use in combination with a proximal bone screw. The nail includes an elongated body having a proximal end and a distal end with a central axis extending between the proximal end and the distal end. The proximal end of the body has a transverse slot therethrough, the transverse slot therethrough with contour for allowing the proximal bone screw to be inserted through the transverse slot and through the proximal end of the body with the longitudinal axis of the proximal bone screw located at an angle to the central axis of the body of the nail within a range between an acute angle on either side of a plane extending transverse to the central axis of the body of the nail.

摘要: Cardiovascular and other medical implants fabricated from low-modulus Ti--Nb--Zr alloys to provide enhanced biocompatibility and hemocompatibility. The cardiovascular implants may be surface hardened by oxygen or nitrogen diffusion or by coating with a tightly adherent, hard, wear-resistant, hemocompatible ceramic coating. The cardiovascular implants include heart valves, total artificial heart implants, ventricular assist devices, vascular grafts, stents, electrical signal carrying devices such as pacemaker and neurological leads, defibrillator leads, and the like. It is contemplated that the Ti--Nb--Zr alloy can be substituted as a fabrication material for any cardiovascular implant that either comes into contact with blood thereby demanding high levels of hemocompatibility, or that is subject to microfretting, corrosion, or other wear and so that a low modulus metal with a corrosion-resistant, hardened surface would be desirable.

摘要: A locking nail for treating femoral fractures has a generally cylindrical proximal portion to be positioned in the medullary canal. The proximal portion has an oblique bore for positioning and guiding a femoral neck screw. The nail has a distal portion provided with at least one cross bore for receiving a bone screw. The distal portion has an annular cross-sectional profile including an axial slot. The annular profile may be in the form of a clover leaf. A transition portion of said nail is located between the proximal and distal nail portions. The longitudinal slot extends from the transition portion to the distal tip of the distal portion.
