摘要： A cartridge type filter is mounted in a housing and is serviced through the top of the housing. The cartridge includes first and second media packs axially stacked. The second media pack is in series behind the first media pack, and filters a portion of the liquid therethrough. The second media pack has a higher efficiency than the first media pack. The overall design has a drain system which allows liquid to drain from the interior of the filter housing and back to the sump before the filter cartridge is completely removed from the housing. Other optional features include an oil cooler, various valving, and a filter cartridge lockout mechanism.

The primary and secondary filters are fluidly isolated from each other. The primary filter is configured for radial flow, and the secondary filter is configured for axial flow. The filter arrangement can be a top load arrangement or, in another embodiment, a bottom load arrangement. This combination is useable in any system that has a filter upstream of a pump (44) and a filter downstream of a pump (14). The example described is a fuel system. Methods of servicing include simultaneously removing the housing cover along with both the primary and secondary filters.

A method of servicing includes removing an old filter element, operably mounting a new filter element in a filter base including engaging a valve head against a spring member in the filter base, and operably mounting the service cover over the new filter element and filter base. A method of filtering includes directing liquid into a filter assembly, blocking a first end cap aperture by using a spring member in the filter base to urge the valve head against a rim of a tubular neck extending from the filter element, and directing liquid through the filter media to filter the liquid.

摘要： A filter cartridge is provided including a media pack, a valve arrangement, and first and second seal members. The seal members have different release forces associated with them. In one implementation, the different release forces are provided by having differing outermost dimensions (diameter, if circular). One of the seal members can be larger than the other seal member. In some arrangements, the relationship between the outermost dimension of the first seal member is 1.5 times the size of the outermost dimension of the second seal member. In another aspect, the disclosure provides a filter assembly including a filter bowl and a removable and replaceable filter cartridge operably mounted in the bowl. The filter cartridge includes a media pack, a valve arrangement, and a seal member forming a seal between the filter bowl and the filter cartridge. The seal blocks fluid flow from the interior of the filter bowl through a drain port defined by the filter bowl. In another aspect, the disclosure provides for a method of servicing a filter assembly. The method includes removing a filter bowl from a filter head to, first, release a seal between the filter bowl and the filter cartridge to open a drain port in the filter bowl. Next, fluid is drained from the filter bowl through the drain port. Next, the user continues to remove the filter bowl from the filter head to, second, release a seal between the filter cartridge and the filter head.

The filter cartridge includes a cylindrical filter media having top and bottom ends respectively mounted within top and bottom end caps. The bottom end cap includes a sidewall that surrounds at least a lower portion of the filter media. A contaminant containment chamber is defined between the sidewall and an outer side of the filter media. When the cartridge is mounted within the canister, the radial sealing element engages an inner surface of the canister to provide a circumferential seal. The sidewall also includes a living hinge positioned below the sealing element.

摘要： The present disclosure relates to a filter assembly including an outer housing, and a removable filter insert that fits within the housing. The filter insert includes a generally cylindrical filter element. An insert body is connected to the filter element. The insert body includes a top end cap in which a top end of the filter element is potted, and a bottom end cap in which a bottom end of the filter element is potted. The insert body also includes a cylindrical liner or wall that surrounds the filter element. The cylindrical liner is spaced-apart from the filter element such that an annular flow passageway is defined between the cylindrical liner and the filter element. The outer wall is configured to prevent contaminants from escaping from the filter insert and contaminating the inside of the housing.
