Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to piece-part, sub-assembly, assembly, and component levels of a differential composed of a sun gear configuration and utilized in an integrated drive generator. An integrated drive generator is a hydro-mechanical transmission that drives a synchronous salient pole generator. The integrated drive generator is a constant speed output, variable speed input transmission that includes the differential and a hydraulic unit. In general, the integrated drive generator utilizes the variable speed input from an accessory gear box of an engine to drive or control a hydraulic unit, which in turn drives or controls a churn leg member of the differential. As the differential is driven, speeds of each speed member of the differential are then summed to generate the constant speed output to drive the synchronous salient pole generator.

Abstract: A terminal assembly of an electric machine includes an electric machine housing including a terminal opening defined in the electric machine housing. A conductive terminal extends through the terminal opening, from an inside of the electric machine housing to an outside of the electric machine housing. An insulator is located at the terminal. The insulator is positioned between the terminal and a housing wall of the terminal opening. The insulator is sized and configured for installation into the terminal opening after installation of the terminal in the terminal opening.

Abstract: A vibration damping assembly for use with a second shaft nested within an interior of a first shaft is provided including a collar rotatable with the first shaft, and a cage rotatable with the second shaft and having at least one window formed therein. The collar and the cage are mounted concentrically. At least one damping mechanism is positioned within the at least one window. The at least one damping mechanism includes at least one flyweight and at least one support wedge. The at least one flyweight movable relative to the cage to frictionally engage an adjacent surface of the collar.

Abstract: A jet engine includes a housing, an intake portion leading into the housing, and an exhaust portion leading from the housing. The exhaust portion includes an exhaust duct and a tail cone arranged radially inwardly of the exhaust duct. An engine portion is arranged in the housing between the intake portion and the exhaust portion. A generator is arranged in the tail cone and is operatively connected to the engine portion. A drive shaft extends from the engine portion to the generator. The drive shaft includes a first end coupled to the engine portion, a second end connected to the generator, and an intermediate portion extending therebetween. The intermediate portion includes a cooling passage that extends from the second end toward a terminal end that terminates short of the first end of the drive shaft.

Abstract: Tail cone assemblies for gas turbine engines are described. The tail cone assemblies include a generator housing having an electrical connector, the generator housing defining a longitudinal axis. A first casing is arranged radially outward from the generator housing relative to the longitudinal axis and a second casing arranged radially outward from the first casing relative to the longitudinal axis. A hollow strut extends radially between the first casing and the second casing and defining an interior cavity, the hollow strut located circumferentially relative to the longitudinal axis at a location radially aligned with the electrical connector of the generator housing. An electrical conductor is arranged within the interior cavity of the hollow strut and an adapter is configured to electrically connect the electrical conductor with the electrical conductor.

Abstract: A generator arrangement includes a housing with a mounting feature, a main generator with an outboard shaft arranged within the housing and axially offset from the mounting feature along a rotation axis, and a permanent magnet generator. The permanent magnet generator has an inboard shaft arranged within the housing between the main generator and the mounting feature. The outboard shaft is coupled to the inboard shaft to provide rotation to the main generator through the permanent magnet generator. Accessory gearboxes and methods of generating electrical power are also described.

Abstract: An integrated turbo-compressor includes a compressor with a compressor outlet, a turbine with a turbine inlet, the turbine operatively connected to the compressor by an interconnect shaft, and a compounding drive. The compounding drive is connected to the turbine and has a variable gear ratio and an output member, the variable gear ratio coupling the turbine to the output member to compound output of an internal combustion engine using energy recovered from an exhaust flow received from the internal combustion engine and in excess of energy required to compress combustion air provided to the internal combustion engine. Internal combustion engines, aircraft, and methods of compounding output of internal combustion engines are also described.

The interior surface has a base that is bounded by an inner rim and an outer rim radially opposite the inner rim. The interior surface is free of anti-rotation projections extending axially therefrom. The outer rim is free of anti-rotation features extending radially inward therefrom.

Abstract: A system for relieving pressure from within a generator casing can include a generator shaft defining a shaft channel therein and at least one rotating valve disposed within the shaft channel of the generator shaft and in fluid communication with an interior of the generator casing and the atmosphere. The rotating valve is configured to allow fluid within the generator casing to flow through the generator shaft to the atmosphere in an open state and while rotating. The rotating valve is configured to prevent fluid within the generator casing from flowing in a closed state.
