    摘要: A method of retrieving recorded information from an optical recording medium and writing information in an optical recording medium. The method is applicable to optical recording media having different track pitches. Before reading information or recording information, a laser beam is employed to read from a control track area of an optical recording medium track pitch information including the track pitch of the medium. Then, based upon the track pitch read, the shape of the spot of the laser beam incident on the optical recording medium is adjusted so that it conforms to the track pitch determined by reading the information from the control track area.

    摘要: A focus error detecting device includes a reflected beam obscurer and a two-division photodetector. The observer obscures a part of the reflected beam. The two-division photodetector includes first and second light receiving sections separated from each other by a division band region which receive the reflected light beam not obscured by the obscurer. A focus error signal is produced based on the output of each light receiving section. Each light receiving section has an array of tapered projections along its edge in the division band region. Alteratively, the light receiving sections have a main part with an edge coincident with an edge of the division band region, and groups of light receiving stripes extending in a direction parallel with the edges of the main part.

The laser power measuring jig supplies power information related to the laser power of the laser beam to a power meter which measures the laser power. The laser power measuring jig includes a main jig body which has a size and a shape which are approximately the same as those of the medium, and this main jig body is loaded into the optical disk unit. The laser power measuring jig also includes a mechanism for outputting the power information outside the optical disk unit and supplying the laser power information to the power meter when the main jig body is loaded into the optical disk unit.

    摘要: Content information (CI) is recorded, and then control information including an encryption key is recorded. The area in which the content information (CI) is written is shifted with respect to the user area (UIA) in a playback-only disc. The control information (SI) is written with an identical shift. As a result of the shift, content information (CI) or dummy data (DD) is written in the area (SIA) in which control information is recorded in a playback-only disc. Information indicating the value of the shift is selected randomly and deleted when the disc is removed from the recording apparatus. When encrypted content is downloaded and recorded on a recordable optical disc, the complete content can be recorded on the disc correctly just once.
