    摘要: A method for providing optimized data representation of relations for in-memory database query processing is disclosed. The method seeks to optimize the use of the available memory by encoding relations on which the in-memory database query processing is performed and by employing auxiliary structures to maintain performance. Relations are encoded based on data patterns in one or more attribute-columns of the relation and the encoding that is selected is suited to a particular type of data in the column. Members of a set of auxiliary structures are selected based on the benefit the structure can provide and the cost of the structure in terms of the amount of memory used. Encoding of the relations is performed in real-time while query processing occurs, using locks to eliminate conflicts between the query processing and encoding.

    摘要: Described herein is an apparatus for dynamically adjusting a voltage reference level for optimizing an I/O system to achieve a certain performance metric. The apparatus comprises: a voltage reference generator to generate a voltage reference; and a dynamic voltage reference control unit, coupled with the voltage reference generator, to dynamically adjust a level of the voltage reference in response to an event. The apparatus is used to perform the method comprising: generating a voltage reference for an input/output (I/O) system; determining a worst case voltage level of the voltage reference; dynamically adjusting, via a dynamic voltage reference control unit, the voltage reference level based on determining the worst case voltage level; and computing a center of an asymmetrical eye based on the dynamically adjusted voltage reference level.

When power is returned, a determination is made as to whether the data storage device is locked and returning from a powered off state or a hardware reset. If locked, a password may be received from a user. After the security password is received, the data storage device is unlocked, allowing access to the data on the device. A setup utility is provided for manipulating the security and backup passwords for each device. Other features include: presenting locked devices to the operating system, the use of a backup password to unlock a device in lieu of the security password, requiring or not requiring password entry from a user to unlock a device when returning from a sleep state, setting maximum or high security, an automatic hardware reset upon exiting the setup utility, and disabling change password capabilities for devices without an enabled security password.

    摘要: This single piece device (the “Splunger”) performs the function of a toilet plunger and a toilet scrubber. It can be used to clean a toilet and clear a plugged toilet. However, the unplugging mechanism is different from toilet plungers currently in use. The later uses air to push the plug out of the way. The Splunger primarily uses water pressure to clear the plug. The Splunger is of simple design and consists of a handle affixed to a specially shaped porous sponge or spongy material. The handle made of durable material that is either rigid or slightly flexible, and is slightly flanged at the sponge end to permit strong adhesion to the sponge and prevent rips. The end of the sponge nearest the water is slightly cupped to enable cupping of water so that a downward thrust of the device will increase water pressure and push the plug down the drain. Sponge is made of strong, durable and porous material to allow for scrubbing, quick drainage and low water retention. The sides of the sponge flare out from the water end of the sponge and are tapered with the outer edge wavy or toothed to permit better scrubbing of the sides of the toilet and up under the rim. The flared sides fold back when the Splunger is pushed down the toilet drain, permitting a tight fit without losing freedom of movement.
