摘要: A method for managing a point-to-point call initiated (702) between a wireless mobile station (114, 400) and a remote party while the mobile is receiving broadcast content via one or more multi-user forward-link broadcast channels (508). The mobile station notifies (704) the network (110) of preferences as to prescribed categories of operating conditions, such as whether to continue receiving the broadcast content, and election between the point-to-point call and the broadcast content should network resources be unable to conduct the point-to-point call and broadcast content concurrently. In accordance with the preferences, communications are conducted (706) in one of the following operating modes: (1) conducting the point-to-point call and discontinuing reception of the broadcast, (2) conducting the point-to-point call and continuing reception of the broadcast, (3) aborting completion of the point-to-point call and continuing reception of the broadcast.

摘要: A base station (LBS) (110) in a wireless network (100) establishes power levels for transmitting messages acknowledging receipt of packet data from a mobile communications device (MAD) (114). In one implementation, the LBS infers whether the MAD received a given acknowledgement message by considering whether (306, 316) the next communication from the MAD comprises new packet data, and whether (310, 320) that data comprises re-transmitted data. The LBS adjusts (312, 314, 322, 324) transmit power level for future acknowledgement messages according to whether the MAD received past acknowledgement messages. In a different implementation, actual/estimated transmit power from a serving base station to a given MAD is averaged (404), and increased (406) by a prescribed amount to yield a target level. Whenever the non-serving base station transmits messages acknowledging receipt of packet data from the MAD, the non-serving base station transmits (408) at the target level.

摘要: Systems and methods for controlling the power level for a mobile station during periods when no data is being transmitted by the mobile station. In one embodiment, data is intermittently transmitted from a mobile station to a base station on a reverse-link traffic channel. When data is being transmitted on the traffic channel, the transmitted data is used by the base station to perform power control operations (e.g., incrementing or decrementing the mobile station's power level, based upon comparison of a received SNR to a target SNR). When no data is being transmitted on the traffic channel, a “zero-rate indicator” is transmitted on the rate indicator channel. The zero-rate indicator is used by the base station to perform power control. Power control based on the zero-rate indicator may use velocity profiles, reliability metrics or other techniques to control adjustment of the power level.

摘要: A power control system for use in facilitating transition to an active state suitable for use in a wireless communication system. In one aspect, the system includes a first transceiver, such as a BTS, having the ability to initiate transmission of a power control function. The transceiver comprises a generator for generating a power control arrangement and a transmitter for transmitting the power control arrangement. The system further includes a second transceiver, such as a terminal, for receiving the power control arrangement and coherently combining the power control arrangement to determine a state transition indication. The second transceiver includes a transmitter that transmits a selected waveform subsequent to the coherent combining. The first transceiver receives the selected waveform, determines a power level associated therewith, and provides feedback to the second transceiver. The power control arrangement may include groups of redundant power control data, data transmitted on idle feedback dimensions, or predetermined signal patterns in addition to at least one power control group.

摘要: An apparatus, system, and method efficiently manage reverse link resources by allowing a mobile station to select between transmitting a payload at a standard power level and transmitting a smaller payload at a boosted power level. The mobile station, therefore, can autonomously select a QoS (Quality of Service) level for physical layer packets. Based on reverse link transmission information received from a base station, the mobile station derives a reverse link transmission guideline defining the power levels and associated payloads for at least a standard service and boosted service. The mobile station selects a reverse link transmission power level from a plurality of power levels including at least a standard reverse link transmission power level associated with a standard payload size and a boosted reverse link transmission power level associated with a boosted payload size where the standard payload size is greater than the boosted payload size.

摘要: Techniques for scheduling terminals with different scheduling delays. Initially, the scheduling delay of each terminal is determined, and the total available transmit power and the link efficiency of each terminal are estimated. In a first scheme, the terminals are scheduled for data transmission based on the longest scheduling delay among the delays of all terminals. In a second scheme, each terminal is assigned a particular priority based on its scheduling delay, and the terminals are scheduled based on their assigned priorities. In a third scheme, the terminals are categorized into classes based on their scheduling delays. A percentage of the total available transmit power is allocated to each class, and the terminals in each class are scheduled based on the transmit power allocated to that class. In a fourth scheme, the terminals are scheduled for data transmission, and the schedule for each terminal is applied after its scheduling delay.
