Abstract: A rotor for a permanent magnet electric machine includes a rotor core and a plurality of permanent magnet bundles located at the rotor core. Each permanent magnet bundle includes a first magnet of a first magnetic material and a second magnet of a second magnetic material located radially outboard of the first magnet. The second magnet has an increased resistance to demagnetization relative to the first magnet. A permanent magnet electric machine includes a stator and a rotor magnetically interactive with the stator. The rotor includes a rotor core and a plurality of permanent magnet bundles located at the rotor core. Each permanent magnet bundle includes a first magnet of a first magnetic material and a second magnet of a second magnetic material located radially outboard of the first magnet. The second magnet has an increased resistance to de-magnetization relative to the first magnet.

Abstract: A guidance mechanism for an elevator car is constructed and arranged to move along a lane defined at least in-part between two opposing first and second lane structures of a stationary structure. The guidance mechanism includes a first support structure supported by the first lane structure. The first support structure includes a first retainer face disposed between the elevator car and the first lane structure that substantially faces the first lane structure, and is spaced from the first lane structure. A first retention device of the mechanism is disposed, at least in part, between the first retainer face and the first lane structure. The first retention device is supported by the elevator car and is constructed and arranged to contact the first retainer face for limiting lateral movement of the elevator car away from the first lane structure and toward the second lane structure.

Abstract: An electric machine including a rotor and an annularly-shaped first stator is provided. The rotor includes an annularly-shaped rotor body and permanent magnets positionally-fixed relative to the rotor body. The first stator includes circumferentially-spaced stator poles. The rotor and the first stator are concentric and axially-aligned relative to an axial centerline of the electric machine. Each of the permanent magnets creates a magnetic dipole. Each magnetic dipole extends along a dipole axis that passes through the respective permanent magnet. Each dipole axis extends in a first plane. The centerline of the electric machine extends in a second plane that is at least substantially perpendicular to the first plane. Each of the permanent magnets is positioned so that a magnet angle that is between 15° and 75° is defined between the respective dipole axis and a radial axis that extends between the respective permanent magnet and the centerline.

Abstract: A ropeless elevator system includes a vertically extending first lane, a vertically extending second lane, and a transfer station extending between and in communication with the first and second lanes. An elevator car is disposed in and is constructed and arranged to move through the transfer station and the first and second lanes. A propulsion system of the elevator system propels the elevator car through at least the first and second lanes and carries a supplemental DC energy storage device for providing supplemental energy to the elevator car during normal operation. A wireless power transfer system of the elevator system is configured to periodically charge the DC energy storage device.
