    摘要： A medical apparatus and method of use for implanting a percutaneous catheter in a patient's body which catheter can be easily positioned, repositioned, and replaced. The apparatus includes an elongate sleeve comprising a wall surrounding an interior elongate passageway. The passageway extends from a sleeve proximal end to a sleeve distal end. The sleeve is intended to be percutaneously implanted through an incision in the patient's skin so that the sleeve distal end resides subcutaneously. The sleeve outer peripheral surface carries a layer of porous material intended to be placed just under the patient's outer skin layer in contact with the dermis to promote tissue ingrowth for anchoring the sleeve and forming an infection resistant barrier. The sleeve passageway is dimensioned to snugly accommodate the outer surface of catheter while permitting the catheter to slide relative to the sleeve. A sealing device is mounted around the catheter adjacent to the sleeve proximal end to prevent deleterious material from migrating into the patient's body along the catheter outer surface.

    摘要： A trocar for placement in the lumen of a cannula to facilitate inserting the cannula through the wall of a body cavity, the trocar comprising an obturator with a point for piercing the wall of the body cavity, and a protective sleeve mounted concentrically around the obturator. The obturator retracts proximally relative to the protective sleeve after the trocar point has penetrated through the wall of the body cavity. The protective sleeve is mounted for axial movement relative to the obturator, retracting proximally in response to drag from the wall of the body cavity as the trocar is advanced through the wall, and advancing distally after the cannula has penetrated through the wall, reducing the drag on the sleeve. The distal advancement of the sleeve triggers the retraction of the obturator.

The device embodies a specially supported septum which exhibits exceptional resealing characteristics. In this regard, the device includes a rigid inner ring adapted to create uniform circumferential compression on the septum member to enhance site resealing even when standard twelve degree beveled hypodermic syringe needles are used. Additionally, the device is uniquely configured to give immediate feedback to the caregiver if the needle misses the target, thereby minimizing accidental subcutaneous injections.
