    摘要: A simple, inexpensive, and fast method of establishing if a defect does or does not exist within a thick-walled solid geometry, which is especially useful to detect if such a defect, a crack, exists within a gun barrel. With further analysis, the method allows not only the identification of the defect's presence; but, a means of establishing the size thereof—which, for example, is critical to understanding if a gun tube has a defect that would warrant its being taken out of service for the safety of its crew or removed from manufacturing. The method involves creating an acoustic vibration in the particular thick-walled, solid geometry, esp. a gun barrel, and observing the vibration pattern which results. The size of the particular defect can be ascertained by a) manually using a correlation between the magnitude of the defect and the relative changes in the decay coefficient or shifts in frequency data or (b) automatically using a Bayes maximum likelihood, statistical pattern classification algorithm and a library comprised of either the decay coefficients or the means and covariances of defect-free and cracked objects.

    摘要: System flow path designs that minimize the impact of gas diffusion sources and sinks. By reducing the magnitude of parasitic sources and sinks, lower rates of photosynthesis and transpiration can be more accurately measured, e.g., without the need for extensive empirical compensation. The gas exchange analysis system includes a sample chamber having an inlet and an outlet, wherein the internal surface(s) of the chamber defining the measurement volume are metal plated. The system also typically includes a source of gas coupled with the inlet of the sample chamber, and a gas analyzer coupled with the outlet of the sample chamber and configured to measure a concentration of one or more gases exiting the chamber, whereby the metal plated internal surface(s) of the chamber reduces sorption of the one or more gases within the chamber.

    摘要: A system for detecting motion and proximity by determining capacitance between a sensor and an object. The sensor includes sensing surfaces made of a thin film of electrically conductive material mounted on a non-conductive surface. In another embodiment, the sensor is a human body. The sensor senses the capacitance between a sensor's surface and an object in its vicinity and provides the capacitance to a control system that directs machine movement. Because the sensor does not require direct contact or line-of-sight with the object, a machine can be controlled before harm occurs to the object.

    摘要: An injection molded anti-scatter grid is fabricated from an engineered thermoplastic to form a focused x-ray absorbent framework defining a plurality of inter-spaces. The engineered thermoplastic has higher yield strength than conventional anti-scatter grid fabrication materials, which produces a structurally rigid grid that renders conventional fiber-like inter-space material unnecessary, and further allows the grid to be flexed in one or more directions to change an effective focal length of the grid. The engineered thermoplastic is loaded with high density particles in order to be x-ray absorbent, while still maintaining desired structural properties.
