A system and method for minimizing or eliminating Coriolis-tumbling sensations on a trainee in a centrifuge-based simulator is described. In one example methodology, a simulator transitions its rate of rotation to replicate flight conditions in which G-forces are unloaded on a trainee from a first-G-force value to a nominal-G-force value. Before reaching the nominal-G-force value, an intermediate-G-force value—which is more than the nominal-G-force value, but less than the first-G-force value—is imparted and maintained on the trainee for a suitable duration of time. This intermediate-G-force value may be determined based on several factors including: (i) the angle of rotation of a gondola at during the first-G-force value, and/or (ii) the first-G-force value. After the intermediate-G-force value is imparted and maintained for a suitable duration of time, the G-forces imparted on the trainee may be further unloaded till the nominal-G force value is reached.

An apparatus for operating a remote controlled airplane including a frame, a remote control unit received within the frame and having first and second joystick elements, a joystick controller cantably mounted to the frame so as to have a forward/backward movement and a side-to-side movement, a first linkage connected to the joystick controller and to the first joystick element and adapted to cause an up-and-down movement of tie first joystick element relative to the forward/backward movement of the joystick controller, and a second linkage connected to the joystick controller and to the first joystick element. The second linkage is adapted to cause a side-to-side movement of the first joystick element relative to the side-to-side movement of the joystick controller. A pedal structure is pivotally mounted to the frame so as to be pivotable about a central axis. A third linkage connects the pedal structure to the second joystick element. A throttle member is pivotally connected to the frame and has a fourth linkage connected to the second joystick element. A pair of front wheels are rotatably mounted to a forward end of the frame and a third wheel is rotatably mounted in a transverse plane to a rearward end of the frame. An actuator mounted on the joystick controller causes a motor to drive the rear wheel.

A new motion cueing scheme has been found and adapted to an actual aircraft production seat to provide both transient and sustained heave acceleration cues. The mechanism is simple and compact enough to be easily implemented on G-seats. Changes in seat pan pitch angle synchronized with seat back vertical displacement result in a cue which feels realistic and reproduces consistently a number of the physiological and physical effects experienced by the pilot submitted to a real heave acceleration.

An anti-G suit simulation system and especially pertains to an arrangement or system for simulating realistic acceleration conditions which are normally encountered during strenuous maneuvers carried out by pilots operating high-performance aircraft, such as jet fighter aircraft. More particularly, there is disclosed an anti-G simulation system wherein aircraft simulator pilots are exposed to physical conditions which rapidly and faithfully simulate and compensate for changes in high-intensity accelerations and gravitational effects or so-called G-conditions which are ordinarily encountered by the pilots of high-performance aircraft during the execution of aircraft maneuvers. Provided is a novel high/low-pressure vacuum system in which a series of solenoid valves are controllably connected to a source of high-pressure operating air and respectively, in a selective mode to high-pressure and low-pressure pumps which are adapted to be actuated responsive to signals received from a simulator computer so as to controllably evacuate the anti-G suit in conformance with specific reductions in G-forces simulated by the system.

A motion simulating device which is capable of creating motion with up to six degrees of freedom; three rotational degrees of freedom and three linear-translational degrees of freedom. The motion simulating device includes a generally spherical capsule abuttively supported on a plurality of rollers that are connected to a translatable frame. At least one of the rollers is a multi-directional active roller that frictionally engages the capsule to impart rotational motion to the capsule in any direction. The frame is optionally attached to a number of actuator legs which are capable of translating the frame along three orthogonal axes. Optimally, sights, sounds and physical sensations may be electronically coordinated and reproduced in the capsule so that a user may interactively control and respond to a variety of environments while simultaneously experiencing the corresponding motion and physical sensations associated with the interactive environment.

An aircraft flight simulator system adaptable to an actual inoperative aircraft not in flight provides instrument displays driven by a computer flight simulator program interacting with inputs from sensors attached to the actual aircraft control system and overlay switches. The computer may also drive visual displays placed in the cockpit windshield and side windows, as well as provide audio output and output for the operation of aircraft jacks to simulate inflight motion. All equipment may be relatively quickly and easily installed or removed so as to make maximum use of an otherwise inoperative aircraft on the ground, and by the use of computer program modifications, may be used to simulate a wide variety of aircraft. Realistic control handling is provided by feedback mechanisms attached to various aircraft control surfaces and the control column and which are coupled to the computer.

An improved G-seat system for providing kinesthetic cues to the operator of a vehicle simulator in which the motion sensations associated with the "G" forces are simulated by the motion of a single seat plate (62) having a pair of passive thigh ramps (78) mounted thereon and the variation in the degree of inflation of thin bladders (82A,B) which overlie the seat plate. Raised surfaces (80) may be provided on the plate beneath the ischial tuberosity region of the operator to increase the dynamic range of perceived g-loading effects. A backrest plate (92) may be provided for motion in conjunction with the seat plate and a thin bladder (128) may likewise be provided theron. Driven radial elements (108,110) may then be positioned on the lower part of the backrest plate to augment pressure cues at selected areas of the operator's back.
