Abstract:
Methods and systems for identifying content in a data stream by a client device are provided. The methods may include receiving at the client device a signature file that is indicative of one or more features extracted from media content and information identifying the media content. The method may also include based on a comparison with the signature file, the client device performing a content identification of received media content rendered by a media rendering source. The client device may receive a set of signature files based on any number of factors including a physical location of the client device, a network address of the client device, a previous content recognition request of the client device, a genre preference, an artist preference, and a user profile.
Abstract:
A media work may be associated with an action by (a) extracting features from the media work, (b) determining an identification of the media work, based on the features extracted, using a sub-linear time search, such as an approximate nearest neighbor search for example, and (c) determining an action based on the identification of the media work determined. The media work may be an audio work. The features extracted from the work may include (A) a frequency decomposition of a signal of the audio work, (B) information samples of the audio work, (C) average intensities of sampled windows of the audio work, and/or (D) information from frequencies of the audio work.
Abstract:
A television audience measurement system measures viewing of a television program viewed on digital television located in a statistically selected site by (i) retrieving an audience measurement data packet from a television set in order to identify the television program, (ii) detecting an audio code embedded in the television program in order to identify the television program, (iii) extracting an audio signature from the television program in order to identify the television program, (iv) identifying the television program through use of a software agent, and (v) selecting at least one of the retrieving means, the detecting means, the extracting means, and the software agent in order to identify the television program.
Abstract:
A device, system and method for enabling the measuring of audiences to media consumed through the use of digital media terminals. An example disclosed herein includes a loop-back device that allows the production/extraction of content identification information from media items rendered by a digital media terminal that can be seamlessly and homogenously implemented in a wide variety of media distribution platforms and devices, including Internet and mobile networks.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method of communicating between two devices, wherein these devices receive a signal requesting a second device to play a first broadcast audio/video content being played by a first device. The method comprises a step of generating a fingerprint of the first broadcast audio/video content being played on said first device and a series of fingerprints of a series of broadcast audio/video contents received by the second device; and a step of identifying said first broadcast audio/video content from said series of broadcast audio/video contents in accordance with said fingerprint of the first broadcast audio/video content and said series of fingerprints.
Abstract:
A detection apparatus includes a meter to record a media link embedded in a first program tuned by a tuner. The media link is activatable to retrieve content different from the first program from a content provider. The content is different from the first program to be presented to a user. The media link is broadcast with at least the first program and a second program different from the first program such that the media link does not uniquely identify either the first program, the second program or a tuned station. The apparatus further includes a program identifier to activate the media link to retrieve the content from the content provider to facilitate identification of the program.
Abstract:
A system identifies which of first and second signal sources is supplying a program signal to a monitored receiver. The first and second signal sources and the monitored receiver are located in a household. The system extracts a reference program signature representative of an output of the monitored receiver and first and second source program signatures representative of an output of the first and second signal sources. The system identifies which of the first and second signal sources is a source of the program signal in response to the reference program signature and the first and second source program signatures.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to adaptively gather audience information data are disclosed. The disclosed methods and apparatus monitor system factor(s) and select one or more sensors from a plurality of sensors positioned to gather audience measurement data based on the monitored factor(s). Thus, the disclosed methods and apparatus adapt to the conditions they face by selecting an amount and/or type of audience measurement data they gather.
Abstract:
Methods, apparatus, and articles of manufacture for using location information to manage spillover in an audience monitoring system are disclosed. In an example method, a first location signal and a second location signal are received substantially simultaneously at a portable metering device. The first location signal is emitted via a first device located at a first location and includes a first signal characteristic associated with the first location. The second location signal is emitted via a second device located at a second location and includes a second signal characteristic associated with the second location. The first location signal or the second location signal is selected based on the first and second signal characteristics. Media monitoring information is generated based on the selected signal.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for identifying a digital audio signal are described. An example apparatus for identifying a digital audio signal includes an input to receive the digital audio signal, which includes data from a broadcast or a stored digital program signal. The example apparatus also includes a detector to receive the digital audio signal from the input and determine whether the received digital audio signal is uncompressed as received at the input; a decoder to receive the digital audio signal from the detector when the digital audio signal is compressed as received at the input and identify any first program-identifying code in an auxiliary field of the compressed digital audio signal; and a code reader to receive the digital audio signal from the detector when the digital audio signal is uncompressed as received at the input and receive the digital audio signal from a decompressor when the digital audio signal is compressed as received at the input. Additionally, the code reader is to identify any second program-identifying code in a decompressed or uncompressed portion of the digital audio signal when the first program-identifying code is not identified in the auxiliary field or when the digital audio signal is uncompressed as received at the input.
