摘要: A tape guide system, especially a tape guide system for a magnetic tape cassette, comprising conductive connecting means between the tape guide elements and/or the front and back of the tape, prevents the tape from blocking, slipping from the tape reels, or folding over. In practical embodiments, pieces of flexible conductive plastics film are arranged in the vicinity of the guide elements. The novel tape guide system can be used in any type of magnetic tape transport mechanism in which increased friction occurs when the tape is transported, especially in video cassettes for all systems.

摘要: Static electric charge build-up is eliminated in tape cassettes having a housing with a take-off spool and a take-up spool for magnetic tape mounted in the housing. First and second tape guide support pins are mounted in the housing on the take-off spool side. A stationary metal guide sleeve is disposed on the first pin and an electrically conductive plastic guide roller is rotatably mounted on the second pin. The magnetic tape path through the cassette housing is such that the back side of the tape engages the metal guide sleeve and the magnetic coating side of the tape is against the plastic guide roller. A smooth flat metal member is mounted for electrical contact against adjacent ends of the metal sleeve and the plastic roller to complete an electric path therebetween. This cancels the electrostatic charges on the plastic roller and the magnetic coating of the tape.

摘要: A tape cassette incorporates an anti-static member that dissipates static electricity on the tape as it runs. The anti-static member comprises an electrically conductive strip that flexibly engages the edges of the coils of tape wound on reels inside the cassette housing. A tab integral with the strip extends into a locating hole of the cassette housing for engagement with a conductive locating pin on the apparatus using the cassette when the cassette is installed. The tab provides a grounding means that completes the connection of the tape to ground and prevents the build-up of static electricity on the tape as it rubs itself and the cassette guiding elements while it is running.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for storing a length of web push the web from such length into a coiled form, whereby adhesion tends to develop between turns of the web in the coiled form, effectively limiting attainable minimum web coil diameter. According to the invention, such adhesion is broken up at least intermittently and web is continued to be pushed into the coiled form to reduce the web coil diameter and accommodate the entire length of web in the coiled form. The mentioned breaking up may include changing static friction between turns of the web to dynamic friction and/or shaking the turns of the web at least intermittently. Where a curved recipient is employed for prompting the web into a coiled form, an electromagnetic vibrator having a plunger acting on the curved recipient at least intermittently may be employed. An aspect of the invention imposes on the web a curl assisting coiling thereof in a housing.

Static electricity on the tape is neutralized during uncoiling by either drawing the tape past a number of electrical conductors, e.g., grounded wires, disposed near the tape or applying to the tape a static neutralizing volatile fluid which is permitted to evaporate before or as the tape is dispensed.
