摘要: Disclosed herein is an outboard motor comprising means adapted for connection to a boat transom and including a swivel bracket having a kingpin bore, a propulsion unit comprising a power head including an internal combustion engine, a lower unit fixed to the power head and including a drive shaft having a vertically extending axis, being driven by the engine, and adapted to drive a propeller, a forwardly facing surface located on the propulsion unit in forwardly spaced relation to the drive shaft axis, a kingpin extending in the kingpin bore and including an upper end, a steering arm connected to the upper end of the kingpin for rotation in common with the kingpin, and vibration isolation means connecting the steering arm and the propulsion unit and located above the upper end of the kingpin and forwardly of the forwardly facing surface on the propulsion unit.

摘要: Several embodiments of outboard motors embodying four-cycle engines having an oil tank that is contained within the drive shaft housing and which is surrounded at least in part by a water cooling jacket for maintaining the oil at an acceptable temperature. The oil tank is formed with a cavity through which an exhaust pipe passes and the area between the exhaust pipe and the oil tank forms, in at least some embodiments, an expansion chamber for silencing the exhaust gases. At least in part of the exhaust pipe and/or expansion chamber is also cooled by a water cooling jacket.

摘要: Two embodiments of outboard motors embodying tuned exhaust systems having exhaust pipes and expansion chambers into which the exhaust pipes extend. A catalyst is positioned in the exhaust system downstream of the point where the exhaust pipe terminates in the expansion chamber so as to preclude interference with the exhaust tuning. The catalyst bed is removable for ease of servicing without necessitating removal of the outboard motor from the its attachment to the associated watercraft and a trap device is provided for precluding water from entering the engine through its exhaust ports.

摘要: A marine propulsion unit, for mounting on the transom of a boat, has a horizontally oriented input shaft and is angularly tiltable in the vertical plane about a point forward of the point of attachment to the transom during operation. The configuration enables the location of the driveshaft housing and lower unit at a point further aft of the transom to keep the marine propulsion unit's center of gravity in a more aftward position, enabling an extended length exhaust system, better control and handling of the exhaust, increased torque, and an increasing overall engine efficiency. The low profile of the marine propulsion unit coupled with its far forward pivot point requires a smaller motor well space and increased visibility in the direction aft of the boat.
