摘要: Described is a storage system that operates with a diskless enclosure. The diskless enclosure comprises a communication port connected to an arbitrated loop, a plurality of storage ports each being connectable to a disk module, and port bypass control circuitry. The port bypass control circuitry includes retimer circuitry for retiming communication signals passing through the communication port to and from the arbitrated loop. The port bypass control circuitry forwards retimed communication signals to the arbitrated loop without any storage port of the plurality of storage ports having a disk module connected thereto.

摘要: An optical fiber suitable for generation of a supercontinuum spectrum when light pulses of femtosecond (10null15 sec.) duration are launched at a certain wavelength into the fiber. The fiber includes a number of sections of highly non-linear fiber (HNLF) wherein each section exhibits a different dispersion at the wavelength of the launched light pulses. The fiber sections are joined, for example, by fusion splicing the sections in series with one another so that the dispersions of the sections decrease from an input end to an output end of the fiber. In the disclosed embodiment, a low noise, coherent supercontinuum spanning more than one octave is generated at the output end of the fiber when pulses of light of 188 fs duration are launched into the fiber at a repetition rate of 33 MHz and with an energy of three nanojoules per pulse.

摘要: A measurement system is provided for a combustion engine. The measurement system employs a fiber optic cable optically coupled to a light source and has at least one Bragg grating. A second fiber optic cable is coupled to the first fiber optic cable in addition to a wavelength measurement device and a device for measuring intensity. A controller is coupled to the device for measuring intensity and the wavelength measurement device. Based upon the measurements from these devices, the controller determines the temperature and pressure in the combustion engine.

摘要: A retaining clip for retaining a strip of optical fiber. The clip includes a mounting base for mounting the clip to a mounting surface. A first spacing leg and a second spacing leg are both attached about their respective first ends to the mounting base. A first retaining leg and a second retaining leg are attached to the first and second spacing legs adjacent their respective second ends. The first and second retaining legs respectively defining a first and a second overlapping segment respectively extending generally inwardly beyond the second and first retaining leg second ends. The first and second overlapping segments are in a generally parallel and spaced relationship relative to each other so as to define an insertion slot therebetween. The insertion slot defining an insertion slot longitudinal axis extending in a generally parallel relationship relative to the spacing between the spacing leg first ends. The clip is configured and sized so as to allow insertion of the strip of optical fiber in the insertion slot while respecting the minimum bend radius of the fiber and so as to reduce the risks of having the strip of fiber slip out of the clip.

摘要: A light pipe having one or more exterior protrusions that function as a secondary light source and an alignment component. The one or more exterior protrusions may provide a secondary light source by reflecting light from a primary light source. The one or more exterior protrusions also may function to align the light pipe with a lamp assembly or an object on which the light pipe is mounted. Further, a lamp assembly having a light pipe receiving portion, with one or more slits to allow an opening to expand upon insertion of the light pipe, and to provide a retention force upon contraction.

摘要: Viscous flow and volume consolidation which may cause sensor output drift are avoided in a fiber optic sensor by using a body of crystalline and preferably monocrystalline material to establish the transducer gap. Use of a monocrystalline material also reduces chemical reactivity of the sensor with substances which may be present where the sensor is deployed. The increased dimensional stability of the monocrystalline body in a tube-based, V-groove-based or other type of fiber optic sensor reduces the need for and frequency of recalibration.

摘要: A polarisation beam splitter (1) comprises a substrate (2) and a branched waveguide (3) formed on top of the substrate (2) and having a main portion (4) and two branch portions (5) and (6) with gradual splitting angles relative to the main portion (4) for conducting respective polarisation components along respective axes. One of the branch portions (5) is formed with a dielectric coating (7) in the region in which the branch portion (5) splits off from the main portion (4). The dielectric coating (7) serves to stress or de-stress the branch portion (5) in the region of the branching junction relative to the branch portion (6), such that different polarisation components in the main portion (4) are split apart along respective branch portions (5) and (6) by the resulting differential birefringence. Such an arrangement, which may also be applied to a combiner, is advantageous since it provides efficient splitting of polarisation components and is easily fabricated.
