摘要: A electron beam row at a time addressed storage target includes substrate with a plurality of column electrodes affixed to the substrate by a suitable means. Adjacent column electrodes are displaced by a first period. The target includes a grid for collecting secondary electrons generated by bombarding the secondary electron emission means affixed to the substrate with a plurality of electron beams. Each beam strikes the target at a beam landing area. The beam landing areas of adjacent electron beams are displaced by the first period. The beam landing areas are positioned so each beam landing area is overlapped by a respective column electrode. A respective potential difference is applied between each electrode and the grid. Charge acquired by the target at each beam landing area is dependent upon the respective potential difference applied between the electrode which overlaps the beam landing area and the grid. Charge transfer is an equilibrium process involving secondary emissions. A scan means is provided to control the position of the beam landing areas perpendicular to the first period thereby enabling the target to be row addressed. Applications of storage targets could include spatial light modulation. A suitable reflection means is provided to reflect a wavefront incident upon the target. This allows the electron beams and the wavefront to be incident on opposing surfaces of the substrate.

摘要: A method of x-ray imaging the internal features of an object undergoing examination in which the object is scanned with a beam of x-ray radiation. The radiation is transmitted through the object as primary imaging radiation and as scatter radiation. The image-degrading effect of scatter radiation is reduced by employing a controlled TV camera tube target erase. The controlled target erase consists of a camera tube target raster scan by an electron beam controlled in the vertical position so as to immediately precede in position on the target the latent image charge pattern moduled thereon by exposure to primary imaging radiation. In this manner, the scatter radiation that leads in position the primary radiation is erased from the target prior to read out and, therefore, does not contribute to the TV image formation. The method is also effective in reducing the effects of electron scatter occurring in an image-intensifier tube and optical scatter occurring in system optical elements.

摘要: A method for storing data in an archival memory semiconductor target by providing a masking layer of a conductive material on the surface of an insulative layer upon the top surface of a semiconductor substrate; the material layer is assigned a two-dimensional array of possible data storage sites. The masking layer at those storage sites at which a first binary value is to be stored, is melted; the selected material is one which, at the melting temperature thereof, does not wet the surface of the chosen insulator whereby apertures are formed by the writing electron beam in the masking layer, at energy levels insufficient to evaporate the masking material. The writing beam energy is reduced at the data sites at which data bits of the remaining binary value are to be stored, and does not melt the masking material thereat. The data stored in the target is read by sweeping an electron beam of relatively low energy across the array to induce a flow of current from the semiconductor substrate and of magnitude dependent upon the presence or absence of an aperture in the masking layer at the data site interrogated.

摘要: An electron beam or other charged particle beam tube of the compound fly's eye type having a coarse deflection system is described. The beam tube comprises an evacuated housing together with an electron gun or other charged particle beam producing means disposed at one end of the evacuated housing for producing a beam of electrons or other charged particles. A coarse deflector, a compound micro lens assembly, and a fine deflector are disposed in the housing in the path of the electron or other charged particle beam for first selecting a lenslet and thereafter finely deflecting an electron or other charged particle beam to a desired spot on a target plane. The electron or other charged particle beam tube is designed in a manner such that the electron or other charged particle beam is caused to diverge at a small angle of divergence in advance of passing through the coarse deflector by appropriately locating the virtual origin or point source of the charged particle a small distance in advance of the coarse deflector. In addition, a dynamic focusing correction potential is supplied to the micro lens assembly along with a high voltage energizing potential with the dynamic focusing correction potential being derived from components of both the coarse deflection potentials and the fine deflection potentials.

摘要: A color difference between stored and write-through (unstored) information displayed by a direct viewing bistable storage CRT is achieved by admixing the storage phosphor with a second phosphor that emits light of a distinctly different color. The second phosphor is chosen to have a lower relative light output efficiency than the storage phosphor under low voltage, flood gun illumination conditions.

摘要: A method for ready and thorough erasure of information in a scan converter storage tube of the class including an electron gun of an electrostatic focus and deflection variety and a storage target having a substrate made from sapphire or like monocrystalline insulator. The storage surface of the substrate is first primed by a scanning electron beam from the electron gun while the potential of a collector electrode on the storage surface is set higher than the value which is lower than the potential of the field mesh electrode of the electron gun by up to about 100 volts. Then the storage surface is again scanned after setting the collector electrode potential higher than the potential of the cathode included in the electron gun and at such a value that the storage surface potential with respect to the cathode potential becomes less than a potential at which the secondary emission ratio of the monocrystalline substrate first becomes unity. Thus, as the storage surface acquires the cathode potential as a result of the scanning, a prewrite potential difference is established between storage surface and collector electrode.

摘要: A memory device and method is disclosed wherein positions of ions associated with a film are varied locally with respect to the film's surface by an electric field. A writing and erasing field is created by voltage modulating the film's conducting substrate in synchronization with low intensity electron bombardment of a local area of the film's surface by a scanning electron beam. The ion's position in the film varies the film's surface potential and alters the angular distribution imparted by its surface to primary diffracted and secondary emitted electrons. In the invention's read mode a scanning electron beam, combined with a detector discriminator, analyzes these emitted electrons to determine the surface potential at each address on the film thus reading out data stored in the film. A second means of reading out stored information utilizing detection of low energy electrons selectively diffracted by ions near the film's surface is disclosed.
