Abstract:
A circuit arrangement for igniting and operating an electrodeless discharge lamp provided with a half-bridge commutator having two switching elements each having an emitter electrode and a control electrode and a parasitic capacitance in between. Each switching element is alternately switched to a conducting state by means of a resonant control circuit. The resonant control circuit is coupled to an oscillator by way of a transformer. The resonant circuit is provided with a capacitor which forms a part of the oscillator.
Abstract:
An organic electroluminescent device includes an electroluminescent element, which is enclosed in a housing. The deterioration in uniformity of the luminous surface, which occurs when an electroluminescent device is stored or operated under ambient conditions, and which deterioration manifests itself, for example, in the form of "dark spots", can be overcome to a substantial degree in accordance with the invention by using an airtight and waterproof housing which is sealed by a low-melting metal, such as a BiSn alloy.
Abstract:
Language models which take into account the probabilities of word sequences are used in speech recognition, in particular in the recognition of fluently spoken language with a wide vocabulary, in order to increase the recognition reliability. These models are obtained from comparatively large quantities of text and accordingly represent values which were averaged over several texts. This means, however, that the language model is not well adapted to peculiarities of a special text. To achieve such an adaptation of a given language model to a special text on the basis of only a short text fragment, according to the invention, it is suggested that first the unigram language model is adapted with the short text and, in dependence thereon, the M-gram language model is subsequently adapted. A method is described for adapting the unigram language model values which automatically carries out a subdivision of the words into semantic classes.
Abstract:
In a film scanner comprising a device for scanning sprocket holes, a projection device is proposed, by means of which the images of two sprocket holes are projected on one sensor. This provides the possibility of scanning two facing sprocket holes with only one camera.
Abstract:
Bus driver having a P-channel output transistor (T1) for driving a first bus terminal (6) from a positive supply terminal (2), an N-channel output transistor (T2) for driving a second bus terminal (12) from a negative supply terminal (4), a P-channel driver transistor (T3) and an N-channel driver transistor (T4) series connected between the positive (2) and the negative (4) supply terminal. The control electrodes of the P-channel transistors (T1, T3) are interconnected and the control electrodes of the N-channel transistors (T2, T4) are interconnected to obtain a fixed relationship between the currents through the P-channel transistors (T1, T3) and through the N-channel transistors (T2, T4). The conduction of the driver transistors (T3, T4) is controlled by two floating control voltage sources (22, 24) which are connected between the interconnection node (20) of the driver transistors (T3, T4) and the respective control electrodes of the driver transistors. Any difference between the current through the P-channel driver transistor (T3) and the N-channel driver transistor (T4) is compensated for by a change in the voltage level at the interconnection node (20). In this way the currents through the driver transistors (T3, T4), and also through the output transistors (T1, T2) which are scaled copies of the driver transistors, are always equal and a highly symmetrical driving of the two bus wires (8, 14) is obtained. As a result, the electromagnetic radiation of the bus wires is low.
Abstract:
In a receiver, two tuners (TUN1,TUN2) provide concurrent reception of mutually different signals. The two tuners are merged into one module (MOD). This may give rise to mutual interference. However, there are various cost-efficient measures to counter such mutual interference. One such measure is that an oscillation frequency in either of the two tuners does not coincide with the radio frequency, or any sub-harmonic of the radio frequency, of the signal received by the respective other tuner.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a system for the processing of a noisy image in a sequence of noisy images which includes means for extracting a noisy temporal sample at a given location in the noisy image and for supplying a corresponding temporally filtered sample in order to form a noise-filtered image. The system includes recursive temporal filtering means which include means for forming a sum of a corresponding sample (Y.sub.t-1) of an already filtered preceding image of the sequence and a corresponding sample [.DELTA..sub.t (x,y)] of a difference image (S.sub.t -Y.sub.t-1) formed between the noisy image and the filtered preceding image and weighted by a recursion factor (K.sub.t); they also include two-dimensional spatial filtering means (F.sub.2D) which are applied to said difference image in order to enhance spatially coherent samples and to supply a measure of probability of motion (.beta..sub.t) which is linked to said spatially coherent samples, and means for applying a scalar function (f.sub.1) in order to generate said recursion factor (K.sub.t) in dependence on said measure of probability of motion (.beta..sub.t). The invention also relates to an X-ray examination apparatus including such a system.
Abstract:
A printed circuit board is provided with at least one component having one or more leads which are secured to contact faces of the printed circuit board. The leads of the component are secured to the printed circuit board via wire clamps soldered onto the surface of the contact faces. The formation of through-holes in the printed circuit board is rendered superfluous by the wire clamps. For the leaded components use can be made of resistors and capacitors, but also of a single electroconductive wire. Also described is a method of manufacturing the invented printed circuit board.

An interface system for a television receiver includes an interface connector having a plurality of contacts connected to various component circuits in the television receiver. In order to provide various functions for the television receiver, the interface system includes various circuit boards each having a plug connectable with the interface connector. The plug includes a number of contacts equal to or less than the plurality of contacts in the interface connector. A particular embodiment of one of the circuit boards includes circuitry for connecting the television receiver to an interconnecting network and for enabling a user to send and receive electronic mail messages using a remote control transmitter for the television receiver.
