Abstract:
A multiplexer for a device capable of receiving signals in first and second frequency bands, the multiplexer comprising a first branch for connecting an antenna to a first sub-system configured to process received signals in the first frequency band, a second branch for connecting the antenna to a second sub-system configured to process received signals in the second frequency band, wherein the first branch comprises a filter for attenuating received signals in the second frequency band and the second branch couples the antenna directly to the second sub-system.
Abstract:
A fluid consuming battery (10) is provided with a fluid regulating system (50) for regulating fluid entry into the battery. The battery (10) includes a fluid consuming cell (20) having a cell housing with fluid entry ports for the passage of a fluid into the cell housing. A first fluid consuming electrode and a second electrode are disposed within the cell housing. The fluid regulating system (50) includes a valve having a moving plate (66) disposed adjacent to a fixed plate (62). The moving plate and fixed plate both have fluid entry ports (68, 64) that align in an open valve position and are misaligned in a closed valve position. The fluid regulating system (50) also includes an actuator that may include one or more shape memory alloy (SMA) components (82a, 82b) for moving the moving plate (66) relative to the fixed plate (62) to open and close the valve.
Abstract:
Monoclonal antibody reagents that recognize the SARS-coronavirus (SARS-HCoV) are needed urgently. In this report we describe the development and immunochemical characterisation of mAbs against the SARS-HCoV based upon their specificity, binding requirements, and biological activity. Initial screening by ELISA, using highly purified virus as the coating antigen, resulted in the selection of seventeen mAbs. Five mAbs exhibited Western immunoblot reactivity with the denatured spike protein, of which two demonstrated the ability to neutralize SARS-HCoV in vitro. Another four Western immunoblot-negative mAbs also neutralize the virus. These antibodies will be useful for the development of diagnostic tests, pathogenicity and vaccine studies.
Abstract:
A tool honing guide and an adjustable roller that contacts an abrasive surface during use of the guide facilitates formation of micro bevels, and the roller is barrel-shaped to facilitate honing a curved cutting arris.
Abstract:
The invention encompasses methods of using racemic and enantiomerically pure norfluoxetine, as well as pharmaceutical compositions, pharmaceutical unit dosage forms, and kits comprising racemic and enantiomerically pure norfluoxetine. In particular, the invention encompasses a method of inhibiting or reducing the production of PGE2. The invention further encompasses a method of treating or preventing inflammation in a patient, as well as a method of treating or preventing a disease or disorder such as, but not limited to, autoimmune diseases, arthritis, neurologic diseases, inflammatory diseases, fibromyalgia, pain resulting from inflammation, neuropathic pain, and cancer.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the significant functional role of several C. elegans genes and of their corresponding gene products in chromatin separation during cell division that could be identified by means of RNA-mediated interference (RNAi) and to the identification and isolation of functional orthologs of said genes including all biologically functional derivatives thereof. The invention further relates to the use of said genes and gene products (including said orthologs) in the development or isolation of anti-proliferative agents, particularly their use in appropriate screening assays, and their use for diagnosis and treatment of proliferative and other diseases. In particular, the invention relates to the use of small interfering RNAs derived from said genes for the treatment of proliferative diseases.
