Abstract: A motion transmitting remote control assembly of the type for transmitting forces along a curved path by a motion transmitting core element, the assembly comprising a flexible guide means or conduit, a flexible motion transmitting core element movably supported by the guide means with the ends thereof extending from the ends of the guide means, a support member for supporting the guide means, and locking means engageable with the guide means for controlling the longitudinal movement thereof relative to the support member. The locking means includes a plurality of resilient fingers supported circumferentially about the guide means by an annular ring wherein the fingers are held in gripping engagement with the guide means, the fingers contacting the surface of the guide means at an acute angle. The resilient fingers allow relative movement between the guide means and the support member in one direction while normally preventing such movement in the opposite direction. Release means in the form of a cylindrical member slidably disposed on the guide means is provided to disengage the fingers from the guide means to allow free axial movement in both directions.

Abstract: The subject invention is directed to a hydraulic control valve for use between a reversible pump and a rudder operating cylinder in a marine steering system. The valve assembly includes a valve body with first and second fluid passages extending through the body from first and second inlets to first and second outlets. First and second check valves are disposed at the outlets for checking reverse fluid flow through the outlets toward the inlets. Means are included in the body for unseating either of the check valves in response to an increase in pressure in the passage in which the other check valve is disposed. A fluid return passage network is included in the body for connection to a fluid reservoir and intercommunicates the first and second passages. First and second shuttle valves are slidably mounted in the body and are spring biased to an operative position for controlling the fluid flow through the passages.

Abstract: An apparatus is provided for assembling the components of a roller bearing remote control cable. Three confluent passages of the apparatus are fed, respectively, a first outer bearing race overlaid by a first elongated ball separator strip, a center core overlaid by a second elongated ball separator strip, and a second outer bearing race. First and second gravity feed ball bearing hoppers having converging wall portions provide a line of ball bearings respectively aligned with each of the passages carrying an elongated ball separator strip. As the elongated ball separator strips pass these lines of ball bearings, balls load the elongated ball separator strips. The first outer bearing race, the first elongated ball separator strip loaded with balls, the center core, the second elongated ball separator strip loaded with balls, and the second outer bearing race pass through a common passageway to a pair of wheels which frictionally engage the assembled components for alignment with and insertion into an outer sheath thereby completing the assembly of the roller bearing remote control cable.

Abstract: A rotary actuator assembly of the type for longitudinally moving a flexible motion transmitting core element to transmit motion in a curved path. The assembly includes a housing comprising a base and a cover which are snapped together and wherein the base and cover are made of plastic. An annular axle portion is integral with the base and extends toward the cover and rotatably supports a circular drive means which includes an internal gear and a peripheral groove for receiving a core element. A shaft is rotatably supported by the housing and supports a pinion which engages the internal gear. A barrel housing extends from the base portion and surrounds the shaft and a bezel is attached to the end of the barrel housing. A friction or drag device threadedly engages the bezel and forces a collar against the shaft to control rotation of the shaft. The barrel housing is attached to the base by bolts, one of which extends centrally through the housing. A retainer is disposed in the housing and includes a groove for surrounding the core element so as to retain the core element in the groove in the circular drive member.

Abstract: A flexible motion transmitting remote control assembly including a conduit and a motion transmitting core element movably supported by the conduit with the ends thereof extending from the ends of the conduit. An adjustment means disposed adjacent one end of the conduit for allowing the conduit to move longitudinally relative thereto to adjust the distance the core element extends from the conduit. The adjustment means includes a support member adapted for attachment to support structure and having a bore therein in which is disposed a fitting secured to the conduit. Abstract: A motion transmitting remote control assembly including a conduit and a motion transmitting core element movably supported by the conduit. A terminal means is attached to one end of the core element and is adapted for attachment to a member to be controlled and normally moves with the core element but may move relative to the core element longitudinally of the core element in response to a predetermined force to automatically adjust the effective length of the core element.
