    摘要: There is provided a transmission device having an electrically variable output that employs three electrically powered motor-generators, or machines. The electrically-variable transmission device comprises first, second and third electrical machines coaxial to and coupled to a plurality of planetary gear sets. Each planetary gear set coupled to a main shaft operative to transmit torque therebetween and operative to transmit torque to an output. There is an input mechanically coupled to one of the planetary gear sets. This transmission device can transmit mechanical power with a continuously variable ratio of the input shaft speed to the output shaft speed using two of the electric motors at a time, forming an input-split or either an output-split or a compound-split. A selectively actuable brake device is operative to multiply torque output from the second electrical machine.

    摘要: A hybrid transmission is provided with a motor and a torque-transfer device is operable to transfer torque from the motor to a transmission input member upstream in power flow from the transmission gearing arrangement. The torque transfer device may be a fluid coupling, such as a torque converter, including a torque converter lock-up clutch. In other embodiments, the torque transfer device is a launch clutch that may be either a wet clutch engagable via pressurized transmission fluid, or a dry clutch, such as used in a manual transmission. A disconnect clutch is selectively engagable to operatively connect an engine connection member with the motor to permit the motor to start the engine, such as after a stop. Many embodiments of the transmission include a one-way clutch arranged in parallel with the disconnect clutch. A method of starting the engine using such a transmission is also provided.

The planetary gear sets have continuous interconnections, and selective connections via a plurality of torque-transmitting mechanisms, that provide three forward electrically-variable modes. Preferably, the planetary gear sets are characterized by effective gear ratios such that a substantially equal maximum torque is required from each of the motor/generators during the three forward electrically-variable modes for a given torque on the input member. This allows the first and second motor/generators to be substantially equal in size.

    摘要: An electrically variable transmission having a single motor/generator provides electrically variable power flow along dual power paths and provides an electrically variable reverse operating mode. The transmission includes a compound differential gear set having at least four gear elements operatively interconnected with one another. A transmission input member and the single motor/generator selectively provide power to a transmission output member via the differential gear set. The transmission includes a plurality of intermeshing gears, including a reversing gear and gears connected for rotation with the output member, for operatively connecting the differential gear set with the output member. Torque-transmitting mechanisms are selectively engagable to provide power flow between the input member and the output member in multiple operating modes, including a parallel hybrid electrically variable reverse operating mode utilizing the reversing gear. A method of operating a transmission that allows shifting between different gearing portions of the transmission is provided.

    摘要: A hybrid powertrain includes a hybrid electromechanical transmission and a power source. A planetary gear set having a first, a second, and a third member connects the power source with a first and a second motor/generator. A battery is operatively connected to the motor/generators for receiving power therefrom and delivering power thereto. An input member rotates with the first member, the first motor/generator rotates with the second member, and the second motor/generator rotates with the output member. A first torque-transmitting mechanism is engagable to connect the second motor/generator for rotation with the third member. The battery and the second motor/generator provide an electric-only operating mode to power the output member when the first torque-transmitting mechanism is not engaged; the power source, planetary gear set and first motor/generator thereby being disconnected from the output member during the electric-only operating mode to prevent parasitic drag.

    摘要: A vehicle transmission includes a differential gear set having five coaxial gear elements and an output member. Two of the gear elements are controllable via torque transmitting mechanisms such as electric motors to establish a plurality of speed ratios between the input shaft and the output shaft. Two of the other gear elements are selectively operatively connectable to an output shaft via a gear arrangement that allows for a plurality of speed ratios between the gear elements and the output shaft. Additional torque transmitting mechanisms such as clutches are selectively engageable to provide continuously variable speed ranges between the input shaft and the output shaft, fixed gear ratios and an electric drive mode. The various speed ratios enable a plurality of compound split operating modes as well as an input split mode.
