Abstract:
A lens unit includes a lens having a focal length variable responsive to an applied electrical field, and an electrical connector. The electrical connector is a flexible circuit element that connects the lens to an electrical power supply.
Abstract:
Modeling protocols. A method includes accessing a number of model programs. Each model program includes computer-executable instructions. The computer-executable instructions describe the behavior of at least one of another program, system, or component. Model programs may be disjointed in that they have independent meaning or dependent in that they include at least one of a state variable, action, or precondition that is dependent on another model program to impart meaning to the model program. An output model program is composed by unification including substituting state variables into another of the model programs without executing the model programs. Traces are generated from the output model program. Each of the traces includes a path of labels. The labels describe actions of the output model program from an initial state to an accepting state where a run is allowed to stop. The traces are output to a user.
Abstract:
An IDT produces a SAW when excited by a single electrical pulse and can be fabricated to embody a code, which code provides for a passive autocorrelation of a SAW input to the IDT and thereby lends itself to further application as a signal generator in a communication device. However, internal dimensions of IDTs are inversely proportional to operating frequency, such that high frequency IDTs present significant manufacturing difficulties. Fabrication of IDTs for high frequency applications is simplified by exploiting a harmonic frequency SAW generated by IDTs. An IDT may therefore be designed according to fundamental frequency internal dimension criteria but can operate at a multiple of the fundamental frequency, thereby providing much higher frequency operation than conventional SAW systems. Operation of a second harmonic SAW system at 2.4 GHz based on a fundamental frequency of 1.2 GHz is contemplated.
Abstract:
A method for laser marking a substrate which method comprises exposing a composition comprising a tetrabenzodiazadiketoperylene pigment to laser radiation to produce a fluorescent marking readily apparent under UV light is disclosed. Many of the tetrabenzodiazadiketoperylenes herein are novel. This method can yield fluorescent markings which are not readily apparent under ambient light. A method for producing non-fluorescent laser marked substrates containing tetrabenzodiazadiketoperylene dyes is also disclosed.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a method or use of 2,9-dichloro-quinacridone as a crystal phase inhibitor during the beta-quinacridone or gamma-quinacridone crude pigment particle size reduction processes. 2,9-dichloroquinacridone is added to the milling composition of the crude gamma or crude beta quinacridone.
Abstract:
A surface acoustic wave sensor or identification device has a piezoelectric substrate, an interdigitated transducer (IDT) input/output mounted on a substrate for receiving a radio frequency (RF) signal and propagating a corresponding surface acoustic wave along a surface of the substrate. An IDT reflector array is mounted on the substrate and operable to receive a surface acoustic wave and reflect the surface acoustic wave in modified form back to the IDT input/output for transmission of a corresponding modified RF signal from the device. The IDT reflector array has at least one reflector segment whose reflectivity characteristics are controlled to control the nature of the modified RF signal.
Abstract:
A method of removal of hydrocarbons from soils using solids-loaded polymer foam. A first step involves providing a solids-loaded polymer foam consisting of an open-celled polymer foam matrix with zeolite dispersed and bound throughout the foam matrix. A second step involves mixing soils containing hydrocarbons, solids-loaded polymer and water. It has been found that hydrocarbons are adsorbed by the solids-loaded polymer foam. The order of mixing can be altered to suit particular applications. A recovery step can be added to recover the hydrocarbons from the solids-loaded polymer foam.
