Abstract:
A method and apparatus for changing operating modes in an image capture device. The image capture device includes a shutter button, a first operating mode for capturing images, and a second operating mode for displaying the captured images on a display device. The method and apparatus include providing the image capture device with two sets of navigational control buttons, wherein a direction of image scrolling on the display in the second operating mode is mapped to the first set of navigational control buttons. The method and apparatus further include switching between the operating modes of the image capture device using the second set of navigational control buttons, whereby a user may change operating modes with the same mechanism that is used for image scrolling. In a further embodiment of the present invention, the .pi. method and apparatus include providing the image capture device with a third operating mode and automatically switching from either the second or third operating modes to the first operating mode by pressing the shutter button, thereby allowing a user to capture an image from any of the operating modes.
Abstract:
A method and system for reviewing and navigating through images displayed on an image capture unit is provided. A method and system includes displaying images in a predetermined number of group types. Each of the group types indicates a number of images to be displayed at a time. The number of images displayed at a time being a page of images. The method includes selecting one group type from the predetermined number of group types and navigating through a plurality of images within the group type through the use of a highlighting area surrounding an image to be selected. Finally, the method and system includes selecting a particular image within the group type based upon the highlighted area. In one aspect, the method and system includes a four-way button to facilitate ease of movement between an image or cell and between pages of images. It also includes a mode button which allows for movement between group types and a view button to facilitate selection of a particular image. In addition, a method and system in accordance with the present invention allows for more natural movement for selection through the use of the four-way button in conjunction with the other buttons. Accordingly, navigation through images can be accomplished in a more expeditious fashion.
Abstract:
The apparatus of the present invention preferably comprises an image sensor, an orientation sensor, a memory and a processing unit. The image sensor is used for generating captured image data. The orientation sensor is coupled to the image sensor, and is used for generating signals relating to the position of the image sensor. The memory, has an auto-rotate unit comprising program instructions for transforming the captured image data into rotated image data in response to the orientation sensor signals. The processing unit, executes program instructions stored in the memory, and is coupled to the image sensor, the orientation sensor and the memory. The method of the present invention preferably comprises the steps of: generating image data representative of an object with an image sensor; identifying an orientation of the image sensor relative to the object during the generating step; and selectively transferring the image data to an image processing unit in response to the identifying step.
Abstract:
A method and system for accelerating a user interface on a display of an image capture unit is disclosed. The image capture unit includes a plurality of image files for providing a plurality of images, the image capture unit further includes controls for allowing an image to be viewed on the display and for allowing navigation between the plurality of images. In a first aspect a method and system in accordance with the present invention comprises providing a low resolution image, medium resolution image and high resolution image within each image file and allowing the medium resolution image to be viewed on the display. In a second aspect a method for accelerating a user interface on a display of an image capture unit in accordance with the present invention includes a plurality of image files for providing a plurality of images, each image file includes a high resolution image therein. The image capture unit includes controls for allowing an image to be viewed on the display and for allowing navigation between the plurality of images. The method and system in accordance with the present invention comprises providing a low resolution image within each image file, the low resolution image being associated with the high resolution image within a particular image file, allowing the low resolution image to be viewed on the display and causing the high resolution image related to low resolution image to be displayed on top of the low resolution image dependent upon the quality of the low resolution image. The method and system also includes allowing for navigation between low resolution images based upon user interaction. Through the present invention the user interface allows a user to quickly review images in an image capture unit such as a digital camera or the like.
Abstract:
A system and method for conserving power within a backup battery device comprises a main battery for generating a main operating voltage and a secondary operating voltage, a switching device for connecting the main operating voltage to a secondary power bus which powers a memory device, and a power manager for sensing whenever the main battery drops to a first threshold voltage, whereupon the power manager connects the secondary operating voltage to the secondary power bus if the memory device contains data, and disconnects the main operating voltage from the secondary power bus. The backup battery generates the secondary operating voltage whenever the power manager senses that the main battery has reached a second threshold voltage.
Abstract:
A seine for collecting bait from a body of water having a bed. The seine comprises a mesh receptacle having an intake portion and a collection portion. A frame is operably connected to the mesh receptacle and has a first portion for holding the intake portion of the mesh receptacle in a receiving state and a second portion for holding the collection portion of the mesh receptacle in a receiving state. An anchor is operably connected to the frame and has a prong capable of penetrating into the bed of the body of water thereby securing the seine to the bed. A handle is operably connected to the frame.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for automatically categorizing images in a digital camera is provided. In one aspect, image data is captured by a digital camera. Image data analysis is performed on the captured image data by the digital camera to automatically generate a category tag to which the captured image data may relate. The generated category tag is stored in association with the captured image data for categorizing the captured image data.
Abstract:
A system and method for hosting entity-specific photo-sharing websites for entity-specific image capture devices is disclosed. The system and method provides software for the entity-specific image capture devices that causes the image capture devices to transmit entity ID information when the image capture devices transmit images over the Internet. The system and method further provide an online photosharing service capable of hosting the entity-specific photo-sharing websites for each of the entities, such that when the image capture devices connect to photo-sharing service, the photo-sharing service uses the entity ID received from the image capture devices to automatically associate the image with the photo-sharing websites of the identified entity.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for establishing a location for a digital image without the use of a GPS unit. Aspects of the invention include broadcasting over a network a location identifier (ID) identifying a location of the network; detecting the location ID by a digital image capture device coupled to the network; and in response to the image capture device capturing a digital image when in communication with the network, associating the location ID with the digital image.
