Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a rotor of an electric motor or an electric generator includes positioning a plurality of amortisseur bars and using additive manufacturing to place electrically conductive material. More specifically, positioning the amortisseur bars may include circumferentially positioning the bars around a rotor stack and using additive manufacturing to place electrically conductive material may include forming a non-solid pattern of electrically conductive material, such as a pattern of electrically conductive traces, across opposite axial ends of the rotor stack to electrically interconnect an amortisseur circuit.
Abstract:
An electrical machine includes a rotor including windings circumferentially spaced apart by rotor wedges. The electrical machine includes a rotor end plate mounted to the rotor. The rotor end plate includes an annular end plate body with an interior surface and axially opposed exterior surface. The interior surface includes a cavity for engaging the rotor. The interior surface has a base that is bounded by an inner rim and an outer rim radially opposite the inner rim. The interior surface is free of anti-rotation projections extending axially therefrom. The outer rim is free of anti-rotation features extending radially inward therefrom.
Abstract:
An electrical terminal device adapted to mount to a structure, and including a electrically non-conductive substructure, an electrically non-conductive cover, a heat resistant shroud, and an electric terminal. The substructure is in contact with the structure. The cover is engaged to the substructure. The substructure and the cover define a chamber, and the substructure defines, at least in-part, a sealed passage in communication with the chamber. The heat resistant shroud substantially covers the cover. The cover is substantially located between the shroud and the substructure. The electric terminal is located in the chamber and is attached to the substructure.
Abstract:
An end winding support segment for a generator rotor includes a support segment body with a curved inner surface configured to be adjacent to a rotor shaft, a winding support arm extending radially outward from the support segment body, and an orifice extending from the curved inner surface of the support to an exterior surface of the support adjacent the winding support arm with the orifice configured to transfer lubricant from a surface of the rotor shaft to a winding located on the winding support arm.

Abstract:
An electrical machine includes a stator defining a plurality of circumferentially spaced slots. A layered conductor is wound into the slots. The layered conductor includes a plurality of layers wherein at least two adjacent layers in the plurality of layers have electrical conductivities that are different from one another. The at least two adjacent layers can form an interface therebetween that is tangentially aligned with a circumferential direction around the stator. The at least two adjacent layers can be in electrical communication with one another with no intervening insulator therebetween. One of the at least two adjacent layers can include a relatively high electrical conductivity metal, and another one of the at least two adjacent layers can include a relatively low electrical conductivity metal.
Abstract:
A wedge for use in an electric machine has a central leg and arms extending in both circumferential directions. The wedge has a radially outer full surface defining a cylindrical aperture through an axial length, and ledge surfaces at each axial end of the full surface. A curved merging portion on an outer surface of the arms merges into a curved contact surface. A rotor, a machine and a method are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A permanent magnet machine includes a rotor including a rotor hub and a plurality of permanent magnets embedded in the rotor in a circumferential pattern. The rotor includes a respective bridge between each circumferentially adjacent pair of the permanent magnets. Each bridge is of a different material than that of the rotor hub, and the rotor hub and bridges are integral with one another.
Abstract:
