Abstract: While a radar waveform generator coupled to a phased antenna array is inactive, a beam steering command is provided to the phased antenna array to cause the phased antenna array be configured for a given transmit and receive direction. While the radar waveform generator is active, received radar results are assigned to the given transmit and receive direction. the providing of the command and the assigning are repeated for a plurality of additional transmit and receive directions corresponding to a desired scan area.

Abstract: A method for detecting the presence of on-body concealed objects includes receiving a visible-domain camera image for a scene, determining, using the visible-domain camera image, a region of interest where a subject is present, receiving an infrared-domain camera image and a millimeter-wave (mmwave) radar image that each cover the region of interest, determining emissivity information for the region of interest using the infrared-domain camera image, determining reflectivity information for the region of interest using the mmwave radar image and determining a concealed object classification for the subject based on the emissivity information and the reflectivity information. A corresponding system and computer program product for executing the above method are also disclosed herein.

Abstract: An apparatus includes an antenna array package cover comprising a radiating surface, a mating surface disposed opposite the radiating surface, and an array of antenna array sub-patterns wherein each antenna array sub-pattern comprises at least one antenna element. The antenna array package also includes an array of sub-pattern interface packages mated to the mating surface of the antenna array package cover. Each sub-pattern interface package of the array of sub-pattern interface packages comprises a package carrier, a sub-pattern integrated circuit electrically and mechanically coupled to the package carrier, and a set of interface lines corresponding to the antenna elements of the antenna array sub-pattern that corresponds to the sub-pattern interface package. Methods for mounting the above apparatus into a host circuit are also disclosed herein.

Abstract: A plate varactor includes a dielectric substrate and a first electrode embedded in a surface of the substrate. A capacitor dielectric layer is disposed over the first electrode, and a layer of graphene is formed over the dielectric layer to contribute a quantum capacitance component to the dielectric layer. An upper electrode is formed on the layer of graphene. Other embodiments and methods for fabrication are also included.

Abstract: An apparatus includes first and second electronically tunable transmission lines configured to transmit or receive a signal pair and provide a selected phase delay difference to the signal pair corresponding to a selected polarization, a first attenuation element connected to the first electronically tunable transmission line and a second attenuation element connected to the second electronically tunable transmission line. The first and second attenuation elements may each be configured to selectively attenuate signals carried on the electronically tunable transmission line to which they are connected according to a selected attenuation setting of a plurality of selectable attenuation settings provided by one or more attenuation control signals and thereby provide a selected attenuation to the signal pair that corresponds to the selected polarization. A corresponding method is also disclosed herein.

Abstract: Antenna package structures are provided to implement wireless communications packages. For example, an antenna package includes multilayer package substrate, a planar antenna array, antenna feed lines, and resistive transmission lines. The planar antenna array includes an array of active antenna elements and dummy antenna elements surrounding the array of active antenna elements. Each active antenna element is coupled to a corresponding one of the antenna feed lines, and each dummy antenna element is coupled to a corresponding one of the resistive transmission lines. Each resistive transmission line extends through the multilayer package substrate and is terminated in a same metallization layer of the multilayer package substrate.

Abstract: A parabolic cylindrical reflector antenna that comprises two or more antenna feeds each directed towards a parabolic cylindrical reflector, wherein the antenna feeds are positioned in one or more line-arrays parallel to a focal line of the parabolic cylindrical reflector, and the line-array is substantially centered opposing the reflector. The antenna comprises a controller configured to scan along a straight edge of the reflector by electronically adjusting a phase of each of the antenna feeds, thereby changing the incident angle of an energy beam relative to the reflector. The controller is configured to scan along a curved edge of the reflector by moving, using a mechanical positioning mechanism, the antenna feeds in a direction parallel to a directrix of the reflector while maintaining the positioning or by electronically selecting one of two or more parallel line-arrays.
