Abstract:
A gyratory crusher has a crushing head fixedly attached to an upper portion of a substantially vertical shaft, on which crushing head a first crushing shell is mounted, and a frame on which a second crushing shell is mounted. The second crushing shell defines, together with the first crushing shell, a crushing gap. The gyratory crusher has a space adapted to contain liquid. The space is defined by a piston, which is formed at least partly of the lower end of the shaft, a cylinder, which is formed at least partly in an eccentric assembly, and a bottom element. The space is adapted to form a cushion with the aid of the liquid, so that the cushion can serve as a thrust bearing transmitting vertical forces from the crushing head to the bottom element.
Abstract:
Pulmonary surfactants comprising additives, such as polymyxins, that improve their surface tension lowering properties. A method for improving the resistance to inactivation of a modified natural surfactant, such as one containing a lipid extract of minced mammalian lung comprising administering a surfactant in combination with a polymyxin.
Abstract:
The invention relates to reconstituted surfactants consisting of artificial phospholipids and peptides able to lower the air-liquid surface tension, more particularly to reconstituted surfactants comprising special phospholipid mixtures and artificial peptides which are analogues of the natural surfactant SP-C protein for the treatment of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) and other diseases relating to pulmonary surfactant dysfunctions.
Abstract:
The method and a system are for adapting the original Black-Scholes option pricing model to determine real time calculated theoretical odds for scenarios of the pricing of financial instruments to create a virtual financial market. End users are able to make earnings relating to calculated odds for a price of the instruments at a predetermined discrete time creating an odds model which automatically calculates price during the trading hours of an actual financial market. The odds are reflecting the expectations of the actual financial market. The invention also includes the introduction of an implied risk premium in the Black-Scholes model for option pricing.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an indexable milling insert (3) having a polygonal basic shape, comprising four peripheral sides, which meet each other in pairs in one the one hand two acute corners (15), and on the other hand two obtuse corners (16). Between chip surfaces (17) on the top side of the insert and flank surfaces (18) along the peripheral sides, cutting edges (19) are formed, which individually comprise on the hand a major edge portion (20), and, on the other hand, a rounded minor edge portion (21), formed in connection with an acute corner (15). Characteristic of the invention is the combination that the individual major edge portion (20) is slightly arched and that at least one connecting surface (4) is formed in the bottom side of the insert, of the type that comprises a plurality of parallel ridges spaced-apart by grooves having a cross-section-wise tapering shape and which are intended to co-operate with an analogous connecting surface adjacent to a chip channel in a cutting-insert-carrying milling head.
Abstract:
A device for quick closing of an electric high-voltage circuit. A main spark gap is provided with a first and a second main electrode, and a triggering device. The triggering device includes an auxiliary electrode gap provided with a first and a second auxiliary electrode and is adapted, where necessary, to generate an arc in the auxiliary spark gap for igniting an arc in the main spark gap. Each auxiliary electrode is provided with a guide rail designed such that the arc, via the guide rails and under the influence of the generated inherent magnetic field, moves into the main spark gap. The two guide rails each have a length that is larger than the width of the auxiliary spark gap. The auxiliary electrodes are adapted so as to be protected from the effect of plasma formed in the main spark gap. A hermetic enclosure encloses the main spark gap and the auxiliary spark gap.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for rapid analysis of a sample medium, particularly a flowing sample medium employ light of a defined wavelength which is guided onto a luminescent layer in contact with the sample medium, the luminescent properties of the layer varying in dependence upon characteristics of the sample medium which are to be analyzed. The luminescent light is monitored by detectors, the detector signals being a measure for the characteristic of interest. For undertaking identification of a particular characteristic with very short follow-up time, even in the presence of a number of other characteristics which influence the luminescent properties, the luminescent intensity is identified for a number of different wavelength regions corresponding in number to the number of characteristics, each characteristic differently influencing the luminescent properties in at least one wavelength region. The signals thus obtained are supplied to a processing device for identifying the value of the characteristic of interest.
Abstract:
A subscriber power controller device for converting a high voltage at a S interface into a stable, regulated low voltage to be used by integrated circuits in an ISDN terminal includes a control logic circuit for generating an output signal to control the duty cycle of an output transistor in an output driver circuit. The control logic circuit is responsive to a ramp signal, an error signal, a high reference voltage signal, a low reference voltage signal and a synchronizing signal for generating the output signal. The output signal is in the form of a pulse train in which each pulse thereof is variable in width dependent upon the error signal. A current-limiting circuit is provided and is responsive to output current of the output transistor for generating a current-limiting signal when the output current exceeds a certain preset limit. The control logic circuit is responsive to the current-limiting signal for automatically terminating each pulse of the pulse train in the output signal on a pulse-by-pulse basis when the output current exceeds the preset limit.
Abstract:
A method involves screening a candidate compound for activity in the treatment of a condition associated with formation of amyloid protein fibrils in a mammal, such as Alzheimer's disease. It is determined whether the trimer/monomer ratio of a chaperone protein is decreased in the presence of the candidate compound. The chaperone protein is or has a high identity to the Brichos domains of Bri2, Bri3 or proSP-C from human. Monomers of the chaperone proteins and/or compounds that promote formation of these monomers are useful for medical treatment of the condition.
