摘要: A saw blade assembly for use with a driver having an oscillatory drive member comprises an elongate sheath and an elongate monolithic blade. The sheath's proximal end is removably mountable on the driver. The sheath has an open interior which receives the blade. The blade's proximal end is pivotably mounted to the sheath's proximal end. The blade's distal cutting end extends out of the sheath's distal end and is transverse to the blade's central longitudinal axis. When cutting bone, the drive member pivots the blade's cutting end back and forth in an arc about a pivot point at the blade's proximal end while the driver holds the sheath stationary to protect surrounding tissues from the motions of the remainder of the blade. The long pivot radius between the proximal pivot point and the distal cutting end contributes to minimizing the angle of engagement of the cutting end to the bone.

摘要: Systems and methods for containing and manipulating liquids, including vessels and unit operations or components of cell culture, cell containment, bioreactor, and/or pharmaceutical manufacturing systems, are provided. In certain embodiments, such vessels and unit operations are directed to continuous perfusion reactor or bioreactor systems and may include one or more disposable components. For instance, in one aspect, a system includes an apparatus in the form of a bioreactor for harvesting cells which produce one or more products. The apparatus may include a disposable, collapsible bag adapted for containing a liquid, the collapsible bag in fluid communication with a liquid-solids (e.g., cell) separation device. For example, an outlet of the collapsible bag may be connected to an inlet of the separation device, and an outlet of the separation device may be connected to an inlet of the collapsible bag for recycle. Accordingly, after separating the cells from the liquid in the separation device, the cells can be flowed back into the collapsible bag where they can be re-harvested. Meanwhile, product contained in the liquid can be collected in a separate container. The efficiency of product formation in such a system may be enhanced by using mixing systems described herein.

摘要: A system and method that reduces the perceptual effect resulting from ear occlusion is disclosed. It comprises of an electro-acoustic feedback network that produces phase cancelling sounds in the ear, where a receiver and a microphone are located. A novel control mechanism is disclosed that controls the response of the feedback network to minimise distortion in the ear while maintaining a desired frequency response for external signals. Devices producing the external signal include hearing aids, personal sound devices, in ear monitors, communications headsets and hearing protectors. The integration of the present invention with these devices improves the user's perception of their own voice.

摘要: A method and apparatus used for actuation is provided. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises an actuation body having a gradually tapered wider end received at one end by an expandable member and at an opposing end by a drive shell. The actuation body being movable from a first position to a second position by means of the drive shell such that this movement causes a looser or tighter fit at the wider end with respect to the expandable member.

摘要: Various embodiments provide surgical cutting devices and systems for orthopedic and other procedures. Specific embodiments provide saw devices for accessing and cutting subjacent bone and other tissue while minimizing injury to surrounding tissue. One embodiment provides a transverse acting saw blade for performing surgical cuts to bone tissue with minimal injury to surrounding tissue. The blade comprises an elongated member having a first portion and a second portion and a longitudinal and lateral axis. The first portion is configured to engage a drive source to produce longitudinal movement of the first portion that is atraumatic to surrounding tissue. The second portion includes a cutting surface. The longitudinal movement of the first portion is converted to a lateral movement of the second portion that is sufficient to cut engaged bone tissue with the cutting surface. The movement of the second portion is substantially transverse to the movement of the first portion.
