Abstract:
Techniques for bonding aligned optical parts to a substrate are disclosed. According to one embodiment, one or more wedges are used to fill in gaps between aligned optical parts and a substrate. Using an appropriate material, the wedges are respectively slid in till respective contacts between the aligned optical parts and the wedges are established, a small amount of a bonding agent is then only applied to the respect contacts. As a result, the shrinkage that may be caused by the bonding agent to destabilize the aligned optical parts is minimized and the alignments among the optical parts are preserved and can sustain under very high environmental stresses.
Abstract:
This invention relates to the preparation of bis-isoquinoline derivatives of general formula (I) and salts thereof, which possesses multi-drug resistance (MDR) reversal activities. Drug compositions and formulations comprising bis-isoquinoline derivatives of general formula (I) and salts thereof are provided for use as sensitivity enhancers in cancer chemotherapy. Methods for inhibiting MDR by treatment with bis-isoquinoline derivatives are also provided.
Abstract:
An impedance monitor for discerning edema through evaluation of respiratory rate. Preferred embodiment includes edema monitor and trigger to initiate diagnostic reporting or corrective action when activated. Recording of Long Term Average and Short Term Average values for secondary edema measure based on DC signal level are described as are methods and apparatus for removing unwanted recurring noise.
Abstract:
An improved process for the vapor phase fluorination, especially fluorination of 1,1,1-trifluoro-2-chloroethane (CFC-133a) with HF to produce 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134a) employs a catalyst which preferably consists essentially of boehmite and Cr(OH)Cl.sub.2.2H.sub.2 O, combined and extruded to form particulates and then heated in nitrogen.
Abstract:
Natural gas is stored in a closed vessel under a pressure of about 1400 to 4500 kPa using a carbon molecular sieve adsorbent. The deliverable volume of natural gas from a vessel packed with carbon molecular sieve particles is increased by raising the density of the polymer precursor of the carbon molecular sieve through adjustment of the conditions for suspension polymerization of vinylidene chloride.
Abstract:
Natural gas is stored in a closed vessel under a pressure of about 1400 to 4500 kPa using a carbon molecular sieve adsorbent. The deliverable volume of natural gas from a vessel packed with carbon molecular sieve particles is increased by impregnating a polymer precursor of the carbon molecular sieve with additional monomers and polymerizing the monomers before carbonizing the precursor.
Abstract:
Vinylidene chloride and other unsaturated impurities are removed from HCFC-141b by reaction with hydrogen over a catalyst such as palladium on alumina.
Abstract:
A hydrocarbon feedstock is catalytically reformed in a process which comprises contacting the feedstock in a first catalyst zone with a catalyst consisting essentially of platinum, germanium and halogen on a solid catalyst support. The product from the first catalyst zone is contacted in a second catalyst zone with a catalyst comprising platinum, germanium, halogen and a metal promoter on a solid catalyst support.
Abstract:
A novel catalytic composite for the conversion of hydrocarbons is disclosed. The catalytic composite comprises a refractory inorganic oxide, a first uniform dispersion of a platinum component and a rhenium component, and a second dispersion of an indium component thereover. The composite further comprises a halogen component and a sulfur component. In addition to a novel catalytic composite there is also disclosed a method of preparing the composite and a novel process for the use of the composite.
Abstract:
The invention provides methods for determining the activity of a plurality of nucleic acid regulatory elements. These methods may facilitate, e.g., the systematic reverse engineering, and optimization of mammalian cis-regulatory elements at high resolution and at a large scale. The method may include integration of multiplexed DNA synthesis and sequencing technologies to generate and quantify the transcriptional regulatory activity of e.g., thousands of arbitrary DNA sequences in parallel in cell-based as says (e.g., mammalian cell based assays).
