It may also contain cooling plates between the electricity generators. Cooling channels including main channels and branch channels coupling the main channels together are formed in the separators or the cooling plates. The intersection of the main and branch cooling channels forms grid-shaped areas with pillars in between that are rectangular, triangular, circular, shaped like a parallelogram, or formed in a combination of these shapes. The cooling channels increase the contact area between the coolant and the separators or the cooling plates and therefore the cooling efficiency of a stack.
