Abstract: A methanol synthesis plant comprising: a feed pretreating section operable to pretreat a feed stream; a synthesis gas (syngas) generation section comprising one or more reactors operable to produce a syngas synthesis product stream comprising synthesis gas from the feed stream; a methanol synthesis section comprising one or more methanol synthesis reactors operable to produce a synthesis product comprising methanol; and/or a methanol purification section operable to remove at least one component from the synthesis product to provide a purified methanol product; wherein the methanol synthesis plant is configured such that, relative to a conventional methanol synthesis plant, more of the net energy required by the methanol synthesis plant, the feed pretreating section, the syngas generation section, the methanol synthesis section, the methanol purification section, or a combination thereof, is provided by a non-carbon based energy source, a renewable energy source, and/or electricity.

Abstract: Provided herein is process of obtaining hydrogen from a blue hydrogen production facility that meets a target carbon intensity (CIT), the process comprising: generating hydrogen from non-renewable feedstock; capturing and sequestering fossil CO2 derived from the non-renewable feedstock; and at least partially powering hydrogen production with renewable electricity, the renewable electricity being derived from biomass in which biogenic carbon produced therefrom (e.g., carbon dioxide, char and the like) is captured and sequestered; and wherein the use of the renewable electricity in the hydrogen production allows the carbon intensity of the hydrogen produced therefrom to be reduced sufficiently so that the target carbon intensity (CIT) is achieved.

The non-autothermal adiabatic reactor is advantageously used to produce hydrogen from an ethanol or other hydrocarbon feedstock.

Abstract: A method for producing hydrogen product having a low carbon intensity is provided. The method includes the steps of: (a) converting a hydrocarbon feedstock to a hydrogen product using a hydrocarbon reforming process; (b) providing at least some of the required energy for the hydrogen production process from a biomass power plant; and (c) processing one or more flue gas streams from the biomass power plant in a carbon capture unit to reduce CO2e emissions. The hydrogen product has a carbon intensity preferably less than about 1.0 kg CO2e/kg H2, more preferably less than 0.45 kg CO2e/kg H2, and most preferably less than 0.0 kg CO2e/kg H2.

Abstract: An operating method is disclosed for a dehydrogenation reaction system. The method includes providing a system having: an acid aqueous solution tank including an acid aqueous solution; a dehydrogenation reactor including a chemical hydride of a solid state and receiving an acid aqueous solution from the acid aqueous solution tank to react the chemical hydride with the acid aqueous solution to generate hydrogen; and a fuel cell stack receiving hydrogen generated from the dehydrogenation reactor to be reacted with oxygen to generate water and simultaneously to generate electrical energy. The method also includes recycling the water generated from the fuel cell stack to one or all of the acid aqueous solution tank, the dehydrogenation reactor, and a separate water tank. The acid is formic acid and, in in the dehydrogenation reactor, the temperature is in a range of 10° C. to 400° C. and the pressure is in a range of 1 bar to 100 bar.

Abstract: A system is described for providing a hydrocarbon product stream. An electrolysis section provides a syngas stream from a first feed comprising CO2 and a second feed comprising H2O, which is then passed to an F-T section where it is converted to a hydrocarbon product stream and a tail gas stream. An electrical steam reformer section said tail gas stream and convert it to a second syngas stream, which is then recycled upstream the FT section. A process is also provided for converting a first feed comprising CO2 and a second feed comprising H2O to a first hydrocarbon product stream in a system according to the invention. The system of the invention can be combined with an upgrading section, in a gas-to-liquid plant.
