An infrared filter for an optical metrology tool includes a substrate having film stacks on opposing surfaces thereof. A first film stack can be used to reflect ultra-violet radiation and transmit radiation at non-ultraviolet wavelengths. The second film stack can be used to reflect visible to near-infrared radiation and transmit infrared radiation. The combination of film stacks can therefore extract infrared radiation from a broadband beam, with the remaining ultra-violet radiation and visible to near-infrared radiation forming the product of the filter. The filter can be used as part of the illumination or collection side optics in a broadband optical metrology tool.

A method for forming a mechanically strengthened feature in a low-k dielectric film on a substrate includes using either spin-on-dielectric (SOD) techniques, or chemical vapor deposition (CVD) techniques to form a low-k dielectric film on the substrate. A sidewall of the feature in the low-k dielectric film is then treated in order to increase the film's mechanical strength. Treatment of the sidewall of the feature in the low-k dielectric film comprises forming a hardened layer by subjecting the low-k dielectric film to low energy, high flux ion implantation. Process parameters of the ion implantation are selected such that the implantation process does not cause a substantial change in the dielectric constant of the low-k dielectric film.

Regarding the aspect of assembly, the over-current protection device is a laminate including a layer of PTC conductive material, an upper electrode foil and a lower electrode foil. As to the aspect of three-dimensional structure, the over-current protection device comprises a laminate and a first protrusion sticking out of the laminate, and the first protrusion forms an open empty room sunk in the laminate. By controlling the geometry and dimensions of the first protrusion, the relation between temperature and resistance of the over-current protection device can be adjusted.

An improved control and monitoring system for managing more than one computer system using a witch with a single connector for keyboard, video and mouse signals for each computer being managed. A notebook style display, keyboard, and pointing device attached to the switch provide a human interface. Each computer is attached to the switch using a cable having a single connector at the attachment point to the switch and separate connectors for keyboard, video, and pointing device signals at the attachment point to each computer, thus allowing a greater density of connections to computers without modifying the computers being controlled and monitored. Even greater densities may be realized by designating one switch as a master and attaching additional switches to the master.

The present invention is related to a method used in a cursor controlling apparatus for detecting a direction a cursor should move on a monitor which comprises steps of: intermittently receiving a light to obtain a series of different optical quantities; generating a series of voltage signals respectively responsive to the series of optical quantities; and determining a direction by detecting a sequence of the voltage signals. The present invention can reduce manufacturing cost, economize assembling time, and obtain a more accurate direction.

A method for covalent immobilization of a carbohydrate molecule with an oppositely charged surface, comprising the steps of adsorbing the carbohydrate molecule to the oppositely charged surface in proximity to reactive moieties bound to the charged surface; and next activating the bound moiety sufficiently for covalent attachment to the adsorbed carbohydrate molecule. Also disclosed is a hydrophobic microporous polymer membrane coated with a cross-linked, cationic polymer having fixed charges thereon, the coating having enhanced epoxide content for covalent immobilization of the oppositely-charged carbohydrate molecule. A novel method for sequencing carbohydrates by covalent attachment of a carbohydrate conjugate to the membrane, and subsequent treatment with glycosidases, is also presented.

There is disclosed a process for manufacturing surface coverings including the steps of printing a design on a base layer; overlying the printed base layer with a coating of substantially transparent or translucent material; printing a subsequent design using an ink including decorative particles on such transparent or translucent overlying material; and overlaying the ink printed design with a substantially transparent or translucent material prior to subsequent processing, such as heat curing to ensure an effectively fused product of the resulting surface covering. The present invention may include the required processing steps of chemical or mechanical embossing as more clearly hereinafter described.
