摘要: A particulate filter (22) is arranged in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine. Whether the particulate deposited on the particulate filter (22) has changed in property to a property harder to oxidize compared with right after deposition is predicted or judged. When the fact that the particulate deposited on the particulate filter (22) has changed in property to a property harder to oxidize compared with right after deposition is predicted or judged, the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas flowing into the particulate filter (22) is switched temporarily from lean to rich.

摘要: A particulate filter (22) is arranged in an exhaust passage of an engine. When an amount of discharged particulate discharged from a combustion chamber (5) per unit time exceeds an amount of particulate removable by oxidation which can be removed by oxidation on the particulate filter (22) per unit time without emitting a luminous flame, at least one of the amount of discharged particulate and the amount of particulate removable by oxidation is controlled so that the amount of discharged particulate becomes smaller than the amount of particulate removable by oxidation, whereby the particulate in the exhaust gas can be continuously removed by oxidation on the particulate filter (22) without emitting a luminous flame.

摘要: Each one of telescopic units (12) that are used for a tripod includes a first tubular member (15). A second tubular member (16) is inserted in the first tubular member (15) so as to be capable of rotating circumferentially and enabling the adjustment of the distance by which the second tubular member (16) projects from the first tubular member (15). Press receiving surface portions (25) having a cross section which has an arc-shaped surface such that the center axis of the arc extends in parallel with the center axis of the first tubular member (15) are formed on the inner cylindrical surface of the first tubular member (15). Press applying surface portions (37) having a cross section which has an arc-shaped surface such that the center axis of the arc extends in parallel with the center axis of the second tubular member (16) are formed on the outer cylindrical surface of the second tubular member (16). Rotation of the second tubular member (16) in one direction circumferentially relative to the first tubular member (15) causes given locations of the press applying surface portions (37) to be pressed against the press receiving surface portions (25). Rotation of the second tubular member (16) in the other direction circumferentially relative to the first tubular member (15) releases the press applying surface portions (37) and the press receiving surface portions (25) from the press-contact with each other.

摘要: A tripod includes a vertically movable center column dividable into an upper column member and a lower column member. A lower flange on a lower end of the lower column member prevents the center column from slipping off the tripod when fully extended. When a user removes the lower column member for an activity such as low-angle photography, a number of stopper protrusions prevent the upper column member from slipping off the tripod. When the user reattaches the lower column member, the stopper protrusions disengage to permit free movement of the center column. The present invention thus allows low-angle photography, provides a wide range of vertical motion of the center column, and prevents the user from accidentally damaging a camera when the lower column member is removed.

摘要: A base member such as an elevation pipe of a photographic tripod is severed and rack teeth are formed thereon in a single operation while the base member remains clamped in a V-block. The first rack tooth on each side of the location where the base member is severed includes half of a trough portion between adjacent rack teeth. Additional trough portions forming the remainder of the teeth are formed, either in the same severing and shaping operation, or in a later shaping operation. The formation of the inner half trough portions ensures that, when the two severed ends of the base member are brought together, a smooth transition will exist between the two rack portions. In addition, since the two severed ends always include half troughs immediately adjacent thereto, weaknesses and chipping resulting from the presence of partial rack teeth in these locations is avoided.

摘要: The character or nature of cooling water is correctly estimated. A cooling system for an internal combustion engine includes a radiator, a bypass passage which bypasses the radiator, a thermostat, and a control unit which changes a valve opening temperature of the thermostat. The cooling system for the internal combustion engine further includes an estimating unit which forbids valve opening of the thermostat and which estimates the character of the cooling water on the basis of temperature transition of the cooling water provided in this state.

摘要: An engine system includes: an exhaust path through which an exhaust gas of an engine passes; an urea injection valve that injects urea into the exhaust path; a catalyst that is provided in the exhaust path on a downstream of the urea injection valve, and that selectively reduces NOx by using ammonia acting as a reducing agent, the ammonia being generated by hydrolyzing injected urea from the urea injection valve; a heating portion that is capable of heating the catalyst and the injected urea; and a control unit that performs first control, in which the urea injection valve injects urea, the heating portion heats the injected urea to generate ammonia, or second control, in which the heating portion increases a temperature of the catalyst to a temperature at which NOx can be reduced, on a basis of an amount of ammonia adsorbed on the catalyst.
