The orthopedic nail can include a shaft defining a third opening positioned adjacent to the first end of the shaft and configured to allow the orthopedic fastener to pass through the shaft, and third engagement features positioned between the third opening and a second end of the shaft. The third engagement features can be configured to rotationally couple to the second engagement features. The orthopedic nail can include a locking mechanism that is configured to couple to the engagement features.

    摘要: A surgical nail, such as an intramedullary nail, includes a nail body that includes a proximal end, an elongate intermediate portion comprising an intermediate flexible portion; and a distal end. The proximal end and the distal end are coupled and offset from one another by the elongate intermediate portion. The wherein the intermediate flexible portion comprises at least two cables boned one to another and configured to maintain a fixed length. The at least one cable comprises two or more cables twisted around one another in a helical arrangement and welded together. The proximal portion and the threaded end portion can be coupled together by the intermediate flexible portion as a unitary, integrated element prior to any use of the surgical nail in an implant procedure. The intermediate flexible portion is configured to permit the proximal portion to bend at an angle relative to the distal portion as a unitary, integrated element.

    摘要: A plating system for mending a periprosthetic fracture is provided. The system includes an intramedullary rod, a first and second plate, and a plurality of fasteners. The intramedullary rod has a plurality of transverse holes. The first and second locking plates each have a plurality of openings and is configured to have a contour similar to a surface of a bone to which the plate is applied. Also provided is method of mending fractures by using the disclosed system. In the implanted condition, the first and second locking plates are placed across the periprosthetic fracture and each of the plurality of fasteners is inserted through one opening of the first and second plurality of openings and one transverse hole.

    摘要: A novel interlocking intramedullary rod assembly which allows the surgeon to (i) secure a first bone fragment of a fractured bone (e.g., a distal bone fragment) to the interlocking intramedullary rod assembly in a fixed position, (ii) secure a second bone fragment of the fractured bone (e.g., a proximal bone fragment) to the interlocking intramedullary rod assembly in an adjustable manner, and (iii) thereafter selectively pivot the second bone fragment (e.g., the proximal bone fragment) relative to the first bone fragment (e.g., the distal bone fragment) so as to secure the two bone fragments in position relative to one another with the desired orientation.
