    摘要: Apparatus and method are provided for inspecting finish dimensions of and detecting finish defects on containers moving sequentially in a predetermined path. More than one container can be inspected simultaneously. The apparatus includes one or more inspection gauges suspended above the container path. A transport system is provided for aiding in moving containers through the gauges and simultaneously axially rotating the containers about a vertical axis. Rotation of the containers allows the inspection gauges to inspect the entire circumference of the containers at one or more levels on the container simultaneously. Defective containers are detected when the relative separation distance between the gauge plates of the inspection gauge falls outside predetermined limits. If a defective container is detected, a rejection assembly may be activated to physically remove the defective container from the container path. A suspension system permits transverse movement of the inspection gauges to accommodate non-concentric containers therethrough. The method of this invention includes inspecting containers using in the apparatus of this invention.

    摘要: An apparatus for inspecting glass bottles generally comprises an operation table, an annular conveyor passage onto which glass bottles to be inspected are conveyed one-by-one and on which the bottles are moved slidably, and a turn table coaxially disposed inside the annular conveyor passage. A plurality of guide members are circumferentially mounted on the peripheral surface of the turn table, and a plurality of bottle inspecting stations are disposed circumferentially and spaced equally therearound. The inspecting stations include a down sealing surface measuring station for measuring the down sealing surface of the lip portion of each bottle, an outer diameter and perpendicularly measuring station for measuring outer diameters of the various portions of each bottle and an inner diameter measuring station for measuring the inner diameter of the lip opening. The bottles inspected or measured are conveyed out of the conveying passage and selectively divided into defective bottles and satisfactory bottles.

    摘要: The present invention relates to inspection devices for containers such as glass bottles. In prior art inspection devices, it has been a problem to automatically inspect bottles with concave side panels for sunken or bulged panels. The present invention provides an inspection device (10) that includes an optical gauging device (24) for automatically gauging the side panels of a container (74); and a digital signal actuates an ejector actuator (54) for ejecting defective bottles from a conveyor (12). The optical gauging device (26) includes a light beam detector (28), and a transducer (30) that is optically interposed between a light source (48) and a photoelectric sensor (50) of the light beam detector (28). The transducer (30) is connected to a mechanical contactor (32) that is actuated into contact with a concave side panel either with or without stopping movement of the conveyor. Principle uses include inspection of flat and concave side panels of glass bottles and other containers.

    摘要: The depth of thread in a roll-on closure is tested by determining the radial distance between the peak and valley defining a profile of the external surface of the threaded section. Apparatus for measuring the peak includes a first sensor broad enough to span the valley. Apparatus for measuring the valley includes a sensor able to fit into the valley. The container with the closure thereon is rotated to permit the latter sensor to enter to the full depth of the thread valley in case the point at which that sensor first encounters the surface of the closure is in a shallow end of the valley or not in the valley at all. If the second sensor moves far enough relative to the first sensor and in a radial direction with respect to the closure, the apparatus will respond to such relative movement as indicating that the closure has a predetermined thread depth. If the second sensor does not move far enough relative to the first sensor within a prescribed length of time or amount of rotation of a container, after the initiation of measurement of the closure on that container, the apparatus indicates that the thread depth of that closure is less than the predetermined value.

    摘要: An apparatus for continuously gauging containers has a feed screw to positively move the containers to be gauged along a straight line beneath an endless chain upon which are mounted a plurality of gauging devices. The endless chain has a lower reach spaced above the containers and an upper reach vertically spaced above the lower reach. Each gauging device has an axially movable "go-no go" gauge therein, and there is a horizontally movable reject pin on the gauge. The pin is moved horizontally to a reject position when the gauge indicates "no go" and the pin is then returned to its normal position before the gauges are moved to the beginning of the first or lower reach. At the end of the lower reach, each gauge is retracted and then extended as each gauge is moved into the beginning of the lower reach.
