    摘要: Novel composite pigments containing both organic and inorganic portions have been produced.These pigments consist of an inorganic binary titanium dioxide/aluminum hydrate component, in a percent quantity comprised between 70% and 95% by weight, the remaining organic component amounting to between 5% and 30% by weight, consisting of an organic dye selected from the group consisting of azoic and quinophtalonic compounds, containing in their structure at least one carboxylic and/or sulphonic, substantially salified, acid function.The pigments are obtained according to a co-precipitation process, under substantially alkaline controlled pH conditions, of the acid organic dye together with the aluminum hydroxide (hydrated aluminum), by acidification of a solution and/or an aqueous dispersion of the acid organic dye in sodium aluminate, in the presence of titanium dioxide, at from 40.degree. C. to about 80.degree. C., and by a subsequent lacquering by treatment with an aqueous solution of an alkaline-earth metal salt (Ca, Mg, Ba, Sr) or of a Mn, Zn salt.The above-mentioned pigments are insoluble in water and in common organic solvents. They possess, moreover, a good dyeing power, an excellent stability under heat, a good fastness to light, a good fastness to bases and acids, to migration in plastic materials and stability to over varnishing in the stove, etc. Lastly, they may be obtained with different degrees of covering power.Thus, the pigments find a preferential application in varnishing products, air-drying and stove-baked enamels, in the pigmentation of plastic materials, in inks and in the beprinting of fabrics, etc., by means of conventional applicational methods.

    摘要: A process for producing monoazo or disazo pigments, which process comprises:(a) adding to a solution of a diazonium and/or tetrazonium salt of an aromatic or heterocyclic amine a solution or suspension containing 0.1-50% by weight of the theoretically required total weight of one or more coupling components, and(b) using the product from step (a) as an additive in the production of a monoazo pigment, a disazo pigment or a mixture of monoazo and disazo pigments.Compared with products produced by conventional methods, the pigments produced in the manner described above have a greater coloring strength, improved transparency, improved flow properties, and a higher degree of dispersibility.

    摘要: In a cholesteric guest-host liquid crystal composition having a positive dielectric anisotropy and consisting of a nematic host component with a dye incorporated as a guest component therein and an optically active (cholesteric) component, the improvement consisting of a substantially stable and water insoluble azo dye guest component having a pleochroic ratio a.sub.1 /a.sub.2 of at least 6.5 and an absorption maximum in the range of from 350 to 700 nm, said azo dye being a compound of the formula (1)X -- A -- N .dbd. N -- B -- Y (I)wherein A is selected from the group consisting of 1,4-phenylene, 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthylene and 2-hydroxy-8-amino-1,4-naphthylene; B is selected from the group consisting of 1,4-phenylene, 1,5-naphthylene and 5-substituted benzothiazo-(1,3)-2-yl; X is selected from the group consisting of nitro, nitrile, dimethylamino, di(hydroxyethyl)-amino, phenyl and straight chain C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl, and Y is a monovalent organic radical that does not promote water solubility in the dye molecule.
