摘要:
A basic discharge QK Of a fuel pump is determined based on an engine load and an engine rotational speed, and further a correction amount QG for correcting the basic discharge QK based on comparison of an actual fuel pressure PT with a target pressure Po is learnt for every driving conditions. Then, the basic discharge QK is corrected with the correction amount QG, whereas in a transient condition, the basic discharge QK is corrected with a transient correction amount QT set on the basis of a variation rate .DELTA.PT Of the fuel pressure PT. Thus, it is possible to ensure that an amount of fuel required by an engine is surely supplied without excess fuel supply from the fuel pump.

A fuel delivery system for an internal combustion engine that includes a fuel supply, an electric motor pump for feeding fuel under pressure from the supply to the engine, a pressure sensitive switch operatively coupled to the pump and having a first contact movably responsive to fuel pressure and a second contact opposed to said first contact, and a PWM amplifier responsive to the pressure sensitive switch for applying electrical power to said pump. The second switch contact is mounted on a bimetallic spring responsive to fuel temperature for altering operating characteristics of the switch, and thereby altering fuel pressure characteristics of said system as a function of fuel temperature.

The fuel pressure is kept high for a specified time or until an engine temperature goes down below a specified value after an engine stop under a hot condition of engine in order to prevent vapor lock in the fuel system. Also, a starter motor is prohibited from being switched on until a fuel pressure reaches a specified value in order to prevent a high pressure fuel pump from being operated, whereby preventing sticking or scuffing in the high pressure fuel pump.

A fuel delivery system for an internal combustion engine that includes a fuel supply with a pump responsive to application of electrical power for supplying fuel under pressure. A fuel injector is coupled to the supply for controlled delivery of fuel from the supply to the engine. A check valve is positioned in the fuel line that connects the pump outlet to the injector to prevent reverse flow of fuel from the injector to the pump when the pump is shut down. A sensor is coupled to the fuel line between the check valve and the pump outlet for providing an electrical signal as a function of fuel pressure at the pump outlet, and electronic control circuitry applies electrical power to the pump as a function of such pressure signal. A fuel bypass is connected to the fuel line between the pump outlet and the check valve for providing an open but restricted fuel flow path from the pump outlet parallel to the fuel line, such that fuel continues to flow through the bypass and the pump continues operation even in the absence of fuel demand at the engine. In this way, the pump maintains a minimum level of operation so as to be able rapidly to accommodate increasing demand for fuel at the engine.

A self-contained electric fuel pump includes a pair of coaxially spaced inlet and outlet end caps joined by a case to form a pump housing. A d.c. motor includes an armature journaled for rotation within the housing and coupled to a pump mechanism for feeding fuel through the housing from the inlet to the outlet, fuel within the housing surrounding the armature being at substantially outlet pressure. A pressure sensor comprises a magnetic piston slideable against adjustable spring force within a bore in the outlet end cap as a function of fuel pressure within the pump housing. A Hall sensor is responsive to varying magnetic field as a function of piston position for applying electrical power to the pump armature as a function of pump outlet pressure.

A fuel system for an internal combustion engine wherein the fuel pressure is maintained within a desired predetermined range. An electric fuel pump supplies fuel at a pressure proportional to the electric power applied to the pump. Control circuitry compares a voltage signal corresponding to the fuel pressure within a predetermined voltage range corresponding to a predetermined fuel pressure range. When the voltage signal is below the predetermined voltage range, the electric power applied to the electric pump is increased; when the voltage signal is above the predetermined voltage range, the electric power applied to the electric pump is decreased. The control circuit may further increase or decrease the electric power at a predetermined rate.

A fluid pressure regulator to control the pressure of fuel pumped by an electric motor fuel pump. Carbon piles are sandwiched between two conducting plates in series with the fuel pump motor; springs cause the conducting plates to compress the carbon piles between them; and a chamber in the fuel line downstream from the pump has a flexible diaphragm linked to one of the conducting plates to vary the pressure on the carbon piles inversely with the pressure in the fuel line.
