Abstract:
A catalytic slurry process for hydrorefining a hydrocarbonaceous charge stock containing hydrocarbon-insoluble asphaltenes. The process is effected in slurry fashion with the charge stock being admixed with a phenolic solution of a tetravalent vanadium salt. The slurry is reacted at conditions including a temperature above about 225* C. and a pressure greater than about 500 p.s.i.g., and in the presence of hydrogen and hydrogen sulfide.

THE INVENTION RELATES TO A PROCESS FOR PREPARING SULPHURATED PRODUCTS CONTAINING AT LEAST TWO METALS AND WHICH IS SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF THIOCHROMITES, THIOVANDITES AND THIOTITANATES OF MONO- AND DIVALENT METALS, OF SOLID SOLUTIONS OF SIMPLE AND MIXED SULPHIDES OF TRANSITION METALS AND METALLIC OXISULPHIDES, WHICH COMPRISES HEATING PROGRESSIVELY THERMICALLY DECOMPOSABLE COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING THE METALLIC ATOMS UNDER THE SAME RATIO AS IN THE END PRODUCTS IN AN HYDROGEN SULPHIDE CONTAINING ATMOSPHERE, TO A PREDETERMINED TEMPERATURE RANGING FROM 200 TO 1000*C. AND MAINTAINING THE HEATED PRODUCT AT SAID PREDETERMINED TEMPERATURE UNTIL THE CONTENT IN OXYGEN, IF ANY, OF THE HEATED PRODUCT HAS BECOME SUBSTANTIALLY CONSTANT.

AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF WATER SOLUBLE COMPOUNDS OF COPPER, TELLURIUM AND VANADIUM IS COATED ON A REFRACTORY SOLID SUCH AS SILICON CARBIDE, DRIED AND HEATED TO AT LEAST 350*C. YIELDING A SUPPORTED CATALYST OVER WHICH ISOBUTYLENE IS OXIDIZED IN THE VAPOR PHASE IN YIELDS, FOR EXAMPLE, OF 46 TO 52% WITH MINIMUM FORMATION OF TARRY BY-PRODUCTS.
