摘要: A pressurized medium powered device has a motor of the external rotor type, both the stator and the rotor of the motor having registering channels which communicate with one another across an interstice. At least one annular groove is provided in at least one of the rotor and stator components of the motor at the interstice, and at least one annular sealing element, such as an O-ring or a slotted ring of rectangular cross-sectional configuration is received in the annular groove with axial and radial play and is pressed into sealing contact with the components, and into sliding contact with at least one of the components, by the pressure of the pessurized medium. An annular depression may be formed in the other component in registry with the annular groove, and the sealing element may be partly received in such depression. At least one of the surfaces which bound the interstice is very smooth, which can be obtained by fine machining, surface contacting, or providing a layer of synthetic plastic material on such surface.

摘要: A reversible fluid device (motor/pump) of the sliding vane type, in which the vanes slide in radial slots formed through the cylindrical periphery of a rotor from side to side in a direction parallel to the axis of rotation of the rotor. Sliding of the vanes is effected by opposed complementary cam surfaces at either end of a cylindrical chamber within which the rotor rotates. The periphery of the rotor and a top edge of each vane, are maintained in constant sliding contact with the cylindrical chamber wall. Opposed edges of the vanes are in constant contact with the cam surfaces. Thus, as the rotor rotates, the vanes, rotor, chamber and cam surfaces define varying volume pressure cells. Selective pressurization of these cells via fluid conductors rotates the rotor (motor operation); rotation of the rotor selectively pressurizes the conductors (pump operation).

摘要: A working member, i.e., an eccentric drive ring having internal teeth, orbits about a driven pinion having a lesser number of teeth to achieve gear reduction. Hydraulically expressed divider vanes on the orbiting drive ring engage the inner periphery of a surrounding fixed ring to define working chambers between the outer periphery of the drive ring and the inner periphery of the fixed ring. Port plates on opposite sides of the drive ring are respectively exposed to high and low pressure fluid. Valving occurs when slots on opposite sides of the drive ring are exposed to ports on the port plate as the result of the orbital movement of the drive ring, so as to establish fluid flow paths to and from the working chambers.

摘要: A rotary power device, such as a pump or motor, comprises a central rotor member with a shaft mounting the rotor member for rotation about the axis of the shaft, a plurality of vane members carried by the rotor member and arranged to move in planes parallel to, preferably intersecting, the shaft axis, and a stator member surrounding the rotor member and including lobed surfaces which are complementary so that the vane members follow such surfaces during rotation of the rotor member. The stator member is provided with appropriate inlet and outlet ports for admitting and exhausting a working fluid from regions of the chamber defined between the lobed surfaces, the inner and outer side walls of the stator member, and the vanes and supporting walls of the rotor member. The vane members are spaced around the rotor member such that at least one vane is always positioned between the inlet and outlet ports. Each vane member includes separate vane parts following each of the lobed surfaces and loosely joined by a wedge-like key having angled surfaces which are arranged to press the vane parts toward the lobed surfaces as centrifugal force tends to move the key radially outward. The device can be employed as a rotary motor, engine, or pump, using either compressible or noncompressible fluids.

摘要: A rotary engine comprising a slotted rotor with multiple combustion chambers formed between any pair of sliding gas seal barriers on adjacent faces of the rotor. The gas seal barriers are trapped between contoured cam surfaces which force the required motion of the gas seal barriers through the slotted rotor. The combustable mixture trapped between the sliding gas seal barriers, the cam surface, and the rotor disk and hub surfaces is compressed or expanded as the cam surface varies its displacement. The ignited gasses expand and push against the gas seal barriers, which function as paddles, and produce output torque. The spent gas is exhausted through a duct in the fixed housing.

摘要: A compressor-expander for use in air conditioning which includes a housing having a chamber of oval profile divided into a compression side and an expansion side and containing a cylindrical rotor having a plurality of outwardly biased vanes forming compartments which progressively decrease and then increase in volume as the rotor rotates. The housing has compression side inlet and outlet ports and expansion side inlet and outlet ports, with the heat exchanger being connected between the compression side outlet port and the expansion side inlet port so that an incoming charge of air is first compressed, flows at constant pressure through the heat exchanger where the heat of compression is removed and then expands in the expansion side to produce a sharp drop in temperature for discharge in the cold state. To improve thermal efficiency, a flexible liner of thin cross section covers the wall of the chamber, a layer of insulation being interposed under the lining to inhibit flow of heat from the compression side to the expansion side. Means are provided for peripherally shifting the liner, if desired, to change the phase of the port positions. In one embodiment, the liner is in the form of a continuous strip supported upon insulated pedestals formed in the wall of the chamber and with diametrically opposed means being provided for applying peripheral shifting movement in opposite directions. In another embodiment, the liner has ends terminating in interdigitated fingers having a limited amount of endwise clearance so that when traction is applied to one of the ends of the liner for adjustment purposes, the effect is to reduce the diametrical dimension of the liner and thus unseat it from the wall of the chamber. When bottoming occurs at the fingers, the liner is bodily shifted to the new position. In a final aspect of the invention, the liner is in the form of a plurality of strips each of which carries a portion of the port openings and with the strips being individually shiftable to vary the relative positions of the ports.
