    摘要: A reflective display device includes a switching layer, placed between substrates, for switching between a transmissive state for allowing transmission of incident light and a scattering state for scattering the incident light, and a retro-reflector for reflecting an incident ray from the liquid crystal layer so that an outgoing ray of the reflected light is parallel to the incident ray. A pitch of smallest unit structures of the retro-reflector is set to be larger than 0 mm and not more than 5 mm. The retro-reflector is preferably in a form of a corner cube array and has light absorbing surface portions at borders of the smallest unit structures. With this reflective display device, brightness of white state and contrast ratio can be improved.

    摘要: An iodine-PVA polarizing element 30 μm thick is dried by heating at 50° C. for 30 minutes to thereby obtain a polarizing element having a moisture content of 4.9% by weight. A pair of 100 μm-thick norbornene resin films (tradename “ARTON” made by JSR Corporation) used as protective films are stuck to opposite surfaces of the obtained polarizing element through layers of PVA adhesive agents which are applied on the pair of nonbornene resin films respectively and dried, to form, a polarizer.

    摘要: A light separation apparatus using a flat plate including a wide band anti-reflection coating film, first and second dichroic mirrors, a wide band high-reflection coating film, an anti-reflection coating film, and a material forming the flat plate. The wide band anti-reflection coating film allows an incident light beam generated by a light source to penetrate into the material at a first angle without reflection. The first dichroic mirror allows only a light beam with a first wavelength to penetrate at the first angle and reflects light beams with other wavelengths at the second angle. The high-reflection coating film reflects at a second angle the light beam reflected by the first dichroic mirror. The second dichroic mirror allows only a light beam with a second wavelength to penetrate outside the material at the first angle so that it is parallel to the light beam with the first wavelength penetrated through the first dichroic mirror. The second dichroic mirror also reflects the light beam with a third wavelength at a second angle. The high-reflection coating film reflects the light beam reflected from the second dichroic mirror at the second angle. The anti-reflection coating film allows the light beam with the third wavelength to penetrate outside the material at the first angle without reflection so that it is parallel to the light beam with the second wavelength penetrated through the second dichroic mirror. The light beam penetrated through the wide band anti-reflection coating film and the light beams reflected from the first dichroic mirror, the second dichroic mirror, and the wide band high-reflection coating film pass through the material.

    摘要: A stable resonator for a ring-down cavity spectroscopy cell having an optic axis. The resonator includes two Brewster's angle retroreflector prisms, each having a plurality of total internal reflection surfaces. The prisms are disposed in alignment along the optic axis of the resonator. One or both of the prisms can be rotated so that light rays enter and leave a surface of the prism nearly at Brewster's angle to the normal of the prism surface. This feature maintains alignment between the prisms and allows the resonator to be tuned. One of the total internal reflection surfaces of at least one of the prisms may be a curved surface (either a ground curved surface or a surface curved by the addition, through optically contacting or gluing, of a plano-convex lens to the surface). Alternatively, an astigmatic lens may be centered in one arm of the resonator and tilted at Brewster's angle with respect to the optic axis of the resonator. In a preferred embodiment, each of the prisms has an apex angle of about 135.degree. minus Brewster's angle, a second angle of about 90.degree., and a third angle of about 135.degree. minus two times Brewster's angle.

The retroreflective articles of the invention provide excellent daytime contrast while maintaining nighttime retroreflectivity. Variously colored segments of polymer are directly and either sequentially or simultaneously coated onto a continuous backing to form a multi-colored top layer.     摘要: A method and system are provided for the constant path-length translation of a laser beam. At least one pair of mirrors disposed at an angle (e.g., 90.degree.) to one another and fixed in relation to one another are disposed in the path of the (incoming) laser beam. The mirrors are positioned such that the incoming laser beam impinges on the first mirror, is reflected to the second mirror, and iii) is reflected from the second mirror as an (outgoing) laser beam parallel to the incoming laser beam. A positioner is coupled to the mirrors for simultaneously moving them in a direction that is parallel to the target plane and in a plane defined by the incoming and outgoing laser beams.

    摘要: Method and apparatus is disclosed for manufacturing a reflex mold wherein a flexible or bendable, thin plate is provided for use in the manufacturing process. A reflex prism assembly is clamped together and metal is applied over the surface of the prisms to make a flat, thin layer of bendable material. A model of curvature is then provided and the thin layer is clamped on the model to assume the desired configuration. More metal is then applied over the back surface of the thin layer until sufficient thickness is obtained to make the reflex mold suitable to receive deposition of lens material for the production of a reflex lens.
