    摘要: A non-ceramic insulator for high voltage electrical conductors is designed using a combination of materials to form the outermost surface of the insulator. The non-ceramic insulator includes a support structure and one or more weather sheds. The surface characteristics are chosen to give the insulator good contamination and flashover performance while preventing the aging due to corona activity caused by water drops. Also, the weather shed spacing is varied according to the strength of the local electric field. Old non-ceramic insulators are retrofitted to create a combination of aging resistant and hydrophobic surfaces.

    摘要: A supporting insulator for installation between connecting flanges of a gas-insulated switching installation is provided with an outer ring, with an insulator body which is in the form of a disk and which is formed of a hardened cast resin, and with at least one cast fitting which is subjected to high voltage and is cast in the insulator body. The outer ring need not be assembled with the insulator body until after the outer ring has been colored. The outer ring includes two identically constructed rings that are joined together in a separable, but positively locking manner such that the insulator body can be separated from the outer ring when the rings are separated.

    摘要: Disclosed is a method and a mold for forming a zinc collar on an insulator metal cap. The zinc collar forming mold comprises a setting section for setting the metal cap in position on the mold and an upwardly opening cavity defined around the periphery of the setting section. For molding a zinc collar, the metal cap is immersed in a molten zinc, and the metal cap is set upright on the setting section of the mold with the lower half thereof being still in the molten state. Subsequently, a molten zinc is poured from the upper opening of the mold, and upon solidification of the molten zinc, a zinc collar can be formed around the external circumference of the metal cap.

    摘要: An electrical assembly, such as an insulator or a surge arrester, utilizing a pair of end collars for coupling an elastomeric weathershed housing to a pair of metallic end fittings, and for reducing electrical stress at the interface of the ends of the weathershed housing and the end fittings, and for sealing the ends of the weathershed housing to the end fittings. In particular, a radially directed force is applied to the weathershed housing by insertion of the core member into the axial bore of the weathershed housing causing radial outward expansion of the weathershed housing into intimate contact with the end collars. Also, each of the ends of the weathershed housing is held in contact against the inner end of the respective end fitting to seal the interface therebetween. Accordingly, a watertight seal is created at the interface between each of the end fittings and the ends of the weathershed housings. The end collars are electrically and mechanically coupled to the end fittings via either a press fit or a set screw for reducing electrical stresses at the interface of the ends of the weathershed housing and the end fittings. The core member can be an insulating rod or a plurality of electrical components, such as metal oxide varistors.

    摘要: A line tie assembly and various methods of installing a line tie to a conductor cable are described herein. The line tie is comprised of helical end portions and a generally undeformed, non-helical central portion therebetween. The helical end portions are adapted for circumferential gripping engagement with the conductor cable. The line tie is universal such that it will accommodate various size insulators and is adaptable to both "top tie" and "side tie" arrangements in single-support and double-support constructions. According to one set of installation methods, individual components of the line tie are spread apart along the non-helical central portions and positioned over an insulator. Another set of installation methods use the insulator as a mandrel for bending the line tie into a generally U-shaped configuration.
