摘要:
Therapeutic as well as preventative measures to improve the cosmetic conditions or to alleviate the symptoms of dermatologic disorders with phenyl alpha acyloxyalkanoic acids and derivatives is disclosed. The cosmetic conditions and dermatologic disorders in humans in which the compounds may be useful include brittle or soft nails; abnormally thin skin, mucous membranes or wound; friction blisters; brittle hairs; pruritus; acne; and diseased nails, skin or mucous membranes due to natural or unnatural causes including but not limited to inflammations or infections. The phenyl alpha acyloxyalkanoic acids and derivatives include, for example, diphenyl alpha acetoxyacetic acid, phenyl alpha acetoxyacetic acid, phenyl alpha methyl alpha acetoxyacetic acid and phenyl alpha acetoxypropanoic acid. The compositions containing the active ingredients are also useful for treatment of skin, nails and hair conditions or disorders in domestic animals.
摘要:
Therapeutic treatment as well as prophylactic measures are provided by topical application of compositions containing an aryl 2-acetoxyethanoic acid to eradicate or prevent the development of axillary foul odor, foot malodor and other body odors, e.g. scalp, and skin, nail and follicular infections caused by microorganisms. The compositions are antimicrobial against several organisms that infect the skin and are specifically effective against P. acnes. The compositions are therapeutically effective against folliculitis and perifolliculitis and are useful for other skin lesions, nail and mucosal infections such as impetigo, seborrheic dermatitis, erythrasma and trichomycosis axillaris, associated with or caused by microorganisms. The therapeutic effect of the composition may be synergized or amplified by incorporating a cosmetic or dermatologic agent into the formulation for topical treatment of cosmetic and dermatologic indications. The compositions are also useful as preservatives in food products, cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations, and industrial preparations.

A double walled drum of concentric cylinders having end seals and insulation between the cylinders. The drum is open at both ends and rotates on its center longitudinal axis which is pitched from the horizontal with the entrance on the high side. Diameter restrictions at the entrance and discharge ends of the drum increase product residence time. Lifters at the entrance end discharge end push flexible strandular food subject to microbial spoilage such as strands of cooked pasta away from the entrance and out the discharge. Pins are mounted perpendicular to the inner cylinder wall and point to the central axis of the drum. Liquids such as acid and oil are sprayed onto the food in the drum from a spray bar or spray manifold. The pins continuously lift and separate the strands of food while it moves through the drum, and mix the liquid and product, resulting in a uniform coating. This process and apparatus produce a uniformly coated flexible strandular food such as spaghetti with minimal temperature loss. The food is free flowing and not tangled at the discharge of the drum. Surges from upstream equipment are suppressed, producing a uniform flow to downstream equipment.

Stabilized aqueous solutions containing sorbic acid or salt thereof in an antimicrobial proportion, and further containing from 0.1, and preferably from 0.2, to about 5 ppm of manganous ion, said manganous ion being in an amount sufficient to inhibit oxidation of said sorbic acid or salt thereof to oxidative products such as acetaldehyde.
摘要:
The invention generally comprises a composition capable of sanitizing and disinfecting antimicrobial efficacy while also being ingestible as a food additive residue by humans and mammals. Specifically, the microbicidal composition of the invention generally comprises a carrier and an antimicrobial agent, wherein the antimicrobial agent generally comprises a C.sub.5 to C.sub.4 unsaturated monocarboxylic acid such as sorbic acid, in combination with an aromatic carboxylic acid such as benzoic acid. The antimicrobial composition of the invention is useful for both hard and soft surface sanitizing in environments such as farms, milk and food processing, fluid milk operations, institutional food preparation and serving areas, health care and child care facilities, as well as any other number of contact sensitive environments which require compositions having high antimicrobial efficacy and which will not contaminate food stocks and which pose no danger to humans. Also disclosed are concentrate and solid compositions stemming from the invention as well as the method of using the composition of the invention in sanitizing and disinfecting applications.

A stable rice product is disclosed which is acid-pasteurized. The rice is treated with a polymeric food acceptable acid to a pH of 4.5 and lacks an acid flavor. Alginic acid, pectic acid, carageenic acid and carboxymethylcellulose acid are indicated to be suitable acids.

Solid ascorbic acid particles of less than 38 microns in size are shown to be effective antioxidants for substrates in which ascorbic acid is insoluble, such as animal and vegetable oils, essential oils, carotenoids, and the like, at weight concentrations of 0.02% and even at 0.005% or below. These particles are preferably prepared by wet milling ascorbic acid in a medium in which it is insoluble, until the size is less than 38 microns, and preferably less. Employment of such particles in a medium in which they are insoluble, as well as employment in the stabilization of fats, oils, and foods, is demonstrated.
