Abstract: A polyaxial bone anchoring device includes a receiving part having a longitudinal axis, a channel for receiving a rod, and an accommodation space for pivotably holding a head of a bone anchoring element, and a pressure member configured to be positioned in the receiving part and to exert pressure onto the head to lock the head in the receiving part. The pressure member includes a pressure exerting surface and a deformable portion having a free end, wherein the deformable portion is configured to assume at least a first configuration and a second configuration. The polyaxial bone anchoring device further includes a locking member configured to be inserted into the channel and to exert a force onto the deformable portion. When the head and the pressure member and the locking member are in the receiving part, the free end of the deformable portion is supported in the receiving part, and the locking member is movable in the channel along the longitudinal direction in such a manner that the locking member first contacts the deformable portion and exerts a force onto the deformable portion to bring the deformable portion from the first configuration into the second configuration thereby locking the head. Thereafter the locking member comes into contact with the rod and locks the rod.

Abstract: A system includes a first spacer sized and configured to be received within a resected bone space of a first bone and a second spacer sized and configured to be coupled to a second bone. The first spacer and the second spacer each include a body extending between a bone contacting surface and a coupling surface. At least one shim is positioned between the first and second spacers. The shim includes a body extending between a first coupling surface and a second coupling surface. The first spacer, the second spacer, and the at least one shim position the first and second bones in a predetermined alignment. An adjustable guide including a guide adapter and a guide body is configured to couple to the first spacer and is adjustable on a first axis.

Abstract: A pedicle bone fastener may include a shaft, a helical thread, and an integrated attachment feature. The shaft may include a proximal end, a distal end, and a longitudinal axis. The helical thread may be disposed about the shaft along the longitudinal axis between the proximal and distal ends of the shaft. The helical thread may include a first undercut surface and a second undercut surface. The first undercut surface may be angled toward one of the proximal end and the distal end of the shaft and the second undercut surface may be angled toward the other one of the proximal end and the distal end of the shaft. The integrated attachment feature may be disposed at the proximal end of the shaft and configured to be adjustably secured to a spinal stabilization implement.

Abstract: A fibular nail for repairing distal fibular fractures is provided that does not require a transfibular-transtibial interlocking screw for stabilization. The nail provides transverse apertures permitting fixation of the proximal and distal portions of a fractured fibula to the nail. The nail has apertures for securing the fibula to the nail on the proximal side of a fracture and on the distal side of a fracture. Optionally, the nail may be connected to the tibia for stabilization.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a method of surgical repair utilizing a continuous compression staple for an orthopedic injury site having a long bone fracture defining a fracture boundary between a first bone fragment and a second bone fragment. The method can include the steps of aligning the fragments, applying a temporary compressive force to the aligned fragments, inserting a compression staple in a tensioned state into the first and second bone fragments such that it traverses the fracture boundary, releasing tension in the compression staple such that the staple exerts a continuous compressive force to the first and second bone fragments, and securing a neutralization implant to the long bone. The disclosure further includes kits and systems for performing the disclosed surgical methods.
