Abstract:
The present invention provides an optical recording medium in which the spot size of incident laser beam, focused on the medium by a far-field optic system characterized by null and NA, is further reduced and maintained below the diffraction-limited size by means of material characteristics of the medium while reproducing from and recording on the information layer of the recording medium, thus making it possible to record and reproduce a high density of information exceeding the resolution limit of the optic system. A high density optical recording medium according to the present invention adopts a combination of two different super-resolution layers of mutually complementary optical characteristics with increasing light power. The combination of two super-resolution layers is made in either of two different types: for one type, each of the two super-resolution layers, having a respective threshold light intensity (or temperature) for the onset of change in optical transmittance, produces an increasing spot size of the transmitted beam with increasing light power once a respective threshold light intensity (or temperature) is exceeded, and for the other type, one layer produces an increasing spot size of the transmitted beam with increasing light power whereas the other layer exhibits a reverse trend.

This invention is related to a process for preparing polyester polymers using a composite catalyst comprises the steps of 1) esterifying naphthalene dicarboxylic acid or a dicarboxylic acids containing NDCA or ester derivatives thereof, with ethylene glycol or glycols containing ethylene glycol or derivatives thereof to produce esterified compounds or its low molecular weight polymers; and then 2) continuously polycondensing the obtained esterification product to produce polyester polymers; and wherein the process includes using a composite polymerization catalyst which was prepared by reacting titanium compounds and cobalt compounds in the solution containing at least one alcohol. The process yields high quality polyester polymers having a good color and excellent physical properties. The process can considerably reduce both the esterification time and the polycondensation time.

Disclosed is a method for fabricating a single electron tunneling transistor. In the above method, an insulating layer and a conductive layer are orderly formed on a substrate. The conductive layer is patterned such that the insulating layer is exposed, to form a T-shaped conductive pattern of which a first portion arranged in a vertical direction is connected to a middle portion of a second portion arranged in a horizontal direction. A focused-ion beam is irradiated onto the connected middle portion of the T-shaped conductive pattern such that the second portion is cut at a middle portion thereof and the first portion is separated from the first portion, to form nano-crystal regions respectively at a first cut portion of the first pattern and a second cut portion of the second pattern using an irradiation effect of the focused-ion beam. A first nano-crystal region positioned at the first cut portion of the first pattern becomes a single electron tunnel junction and a second nano-crystal region positioned at the second cut portion of the second pattern becomes a capacitive junction. By the above method, it becomes possible to fabricate a tunneling transistor capable of easily overcoming the single electron tunneling blockade effect at room temperature by thermal oscillation phenomenon and quantum interference phenomenon.
