The invention disclosed herein is a connector pin for a modular conveyor belt. The connector pin is fabricated from two separate materials and includes a high strength polymer core which is covered by a low-friction polymer shell. The connector pin is used with a modular conveyor belt that includes a first conveyor link having a link end which is intermeshed with a link end on a second similar conveyor link. The openings in the first link and the second link are axially aligned with respect to each other such that they receive the connector pin of the present invention therein.

A control circuit (10) is provided for an electric motor brake (12) having an electromagnetic brake coil (14) energizable to actuate the brake to a released condition permitting rotation of an electric motor (16), and de-energizable to enable actuation of the brake setting the brake to a braking condition stopping rotation of the motor. The control circuit includes a switch (102) having an on state energizing the brake coil, and an off state de-energizing the brake coil. A discriminating trigger circuit (76 et al) responds to voltage across the motor to trigger the switch between its on and off states, and discriminates between increasing and decreasing motor voltage during energization and de-energization, respectively, of the motor, to trigger the switch to its on state at a first motor voltage, and to trigger the switch to its off state at a second motor voltage higher than the first motor voltage, to compensate for voltage generated by continuing inertia-rotation of the motor following de-energization thereof otherwise delaying actuation of the brake. The triggering of the switch to its off state at the second motor voltage enables faster application of the brake and stopping of the motor. The same switch both energizes and de-energizes the brake coil, without a separate relay for de-energizing the brake coil.

The invention provides a bearing including an inner bearing surface that is formed by a layer of self-lubricating material and that contains axially extending and circumferentially spaced apart lubrication grooves. The inner bearing surface and the grooves therein are formed by conforming the self-lubricating material to the outer surface of a mandrel that has elongated members supported thereon so that the elongated members form the lubrication grooves. An overlayment is then applied on the layer of self-lubricating material, the overlayment including a plurality of filaments wound around the layer of self-lubricating material, and a hardenable liquid to bond the layer of self-lubricating material to the overlayment.

A brake (30) includes a magnetically permeable body (38) having a pole face (40), an armature (42) axially movable toward and away from the pole face, an energization coil (44) energizable to magnetically attract the armature toward the pole face, biasing members (50) biasing the armature away from the pole face, a pressure plate (64) mounted to the body and axially spaced from the pole face, a friction disc (66) between the armature and the pressure plate and keyable to an axially extending rotary shaft (36), such that upon deenergization of the coil, the biasing members bias the armature to a braking position pushing the friction disc against the pressure plate to stop rotation of the disc and shaft, the armature in the braking position defining an air gap (80) between the pole face and the armature, and such that upon energization of the coil, the armature is pulled through the gap toward the pole face to a released position releasing the disc and permitting rotation of the shaft. The body includes a housing shell (82) having a plurality of magnetically permeable segments (84, 86, 88) breaking up eddy currents and enabling faster brake response. An air gap adjustment mechanism (180) is adjustable to vary the axial distance from the pressure plate to the pole face to take up and compensate friction disc wear and maintain the air gap within a given tolerance as the friction disc wears with use. A torque adjustment mechanism (250) is adjustable to vary the bias of the biasing members biasing the armature away from the pole face, to vary braking torque. A release mechanism (310) includes pivot-bases (316, 318) with radially inwardly extending tabs (320, 322) for engaging and pushing the armature toward the pole face and against the bias of the biasing members, for manual release of the brake.

A method of making a filament wound flat stock member and the filament wound flat stock member made by that method. A low fraction bearing surface is formed on a support having a flat surface by placing a self-lubricating material on the flat surface. A matrix is formed upon the self-lubricating material by winding thereon a resin-impregnated filamentous material. The winding is continued until a desired outer matrix dimension is obtained and the resin is cured to bond the materials together into a hardened stock member. The hardened stock member is removed from the flat of the support to provide a filament wound flat stock member having an exposed bearing surface of the self-lubricating material.
