Abstract:
The invention is a process and device for exchanging heat energy between three or more streams in a microchannel heat exchanger which can be integrated with a microchannel reactor to form an integrated microchannel processing unit. The invention enables the combining of a plurality of integrated microchannel devices to provide the benefits of large-scale operation. In particular, the microchannel heat exchanger of the present invention enables flexible heat transfer between multiple streams and total heat transfer rates of about 1 Watt or more per core unit volume expressed as W/cc.
Abstract:
A network configuration file is generated at a host computer and downloaded to a digital camera. This file contains instruction information for communicating with a selected destination via a communications interface. The digital camera includes a “send” button or LCD icon which allows the user to easily transmit one or more images via a wired or wireless communications interface to a desired destination, which among other possibilities may be an Internet Service Provider or a digital photofinishing center. When the user selects this option, the communications port settings, user account specifics, and destination connection commands are read from the network configuration file on the removable memory card. Examples of these settings include serial port baud rate, parity, and stop bits, as well as account name and password.
Abstract:
A wireless communication system operating in the presence of the periodic noise signals such as from a microwave oven, the communication system, including at least two wireless communication stations with each station including a transceiver, each such transceiver. Each transceiver includes a detector for detecting periodic noise signals and producing a first signal indicating the presence of noise signal's quiescent period and second signals indicating the end of quiescent periods of such periodic noise signal. A controller responsive to the first and second noise signals controls the transceiver to provide effective communication with an other transceiver which minimizes the noise effect of the periodic noise signal. The transceiver transmits information concerning the detected quiescent period for use by the other transceiver to determine when to transmit during such quiescent period.
Abstract:
A fastening element and method that utilizes a fastener or stamping which is capable of forming a fastening assembly by engagement with a self-tapping fastener is disclosed. The fastening element includes one or more indentations formed within a portion of the circumference of an unthreaded bore located within the fastening element. Each indentation has an edge that can have the same helix angle or pitch as the self-tapping fastener that it is to engage to serve as a guide to properly align the fastener within the bore. The indentations also assist formation of mating threads within the element by significantly reducing the required end load to start the tapping process.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to potentiators of metabotropic glutamate receptor function and specifically provides compounds of formula I, compositions thereof and methods of using the same.
Abstract:
An optoelectronic device that provides isolation between a resonant reflector and an adjacent conducting layer of the optoelectronic device. Isolation may be accomplished by providing a buffer or cladding layer between the resonant reflector and the adjacent conducting layer of the optoelectronic device. The cladding or buffer layer is preferably sufficiently thick, or has a sufficiently low refractive index relative to the refractive index of the waveguide of the resonant reflector, to substantially prevent energy in the evanescent tail of the guided mode in the waveguide from entering the adjacent conductive layer of the optoelectronic device.
Abstract:
A method for computer memory calibration includes flashing a calibration from a processor into two flash memory sections. Either the same or an alternate processor requests data stored in one of the flash memory sections. Subsequently, exception handler logic within an exception mechanism activates and generates an exception for the data stored in the aforementioned flash memory section. The calibration in the other flash memory section then transfers to the processor through the functioning of the exception.
Abstract:
An air conditioning system for a vehicle includes an evaporator for evaporating the refrigerant and including a predetermined portion in which refrigerant pools. A device for directing the flow of air to the predetermined portion to minimize the pooling of refrigerant in the predetermined portion includes a spool and a sheet wound around the spool for winding and unwinding the sheet. The opening is disposed in the sheet for allowing airflow to said predetermined portion of the evaporator.
Abstract:
An apparatus for body surface mapping comprises a plurality of electrodes for attachment to spatially separate locations on a human torso with each electrode capable of detecting the electrical activity associated with a heartbeat and producing a corresponding voltage. The electrodes are sampled at a rate of 1 KHz during a cardiac cycle and sets of sampled values are produced and stored. Positional variations of the maximum and minimum sampled values over time are displayed as a projection of trajectories of the maximum and minimum sampled values in a three dimensional (x, y, t) space onto planes perpendicular to a plane containing the electrodes.
