摘要: The present invention, generally speaking, provides an improved web-based media submission tool. As with some existing tools, operation of the tool is drag and drop or the user can “click” to browse a directory to select media objects. Unlike existing tools, the tool provides the user an opportunity to confirm the submission, for example by generating a thumbnail image of an image file that has been dragged and dropped. Batch submission is provided for in which a user drags and drops a plurality of images or other media objects. Submission from a web page to a web page is also provided for. The submission tool is configurable to perform a variable amount of intellegent preprocessing on media objects prior to upload. In the case of digital images, the tool can perform sizing and formatting, for example. Information capture is performed with information being uploaded together with the media objects. In an exemplary embodiment, information capture is both user-transparent (e.g., user ID and/or password) and user-visible (e.g., the user can provide captions for media objects). The submission of information about the user and the media objects facilitates automatic integration of the media objects within existing databases.

摘要: Techniques and systems for for managing digital rights can be implemented to protect against unauthorized copying of digital content and to help ensure payment to content owners and distributors. Digital wrappers can be applied to data files to prevent access without a valid authorization. Information relating to authorizations to access data files and/or keys for accessing the data files may be stored and retrieved using data stored in a non-volatile storage area of a user device. Software on the user device can be used to recognize files and to apply digital wrappers to recognized files. In addition, the software can be used to remove digital wrappers from files in accordance with authorizations to access the files. Payments or other credits can be allocated among distributors of a data file using information associated with the digital wrappers.

摘要: Apparatus for enhancing and thresholding scanned microfilm images, specifically for removing single pixel noise therefrom, and accompanying methods for use therein are disclosed. Specifically, this apparatus convolves each one of a pre-defined group of incoming pixel values with a corresponding one of a pre-defined set of coefficients in order to generate an convolved pixel value. The convolved pixel is then compared against a threshold level to produce a thresholded pixel value indicative of the results of the comparison. The inventive apparatus also includes a noise processing circuit that contains a noise tracker and a noise detector and filter circuit. The noise tracker is used to produce a noise value that tracks a noise level present in the threshold pixel value. The noise detector and filter circuit filters pixel noise from the thresholded pixel value and, in response thereto, produces a corresponding output pixel value for a current incoming pixel value being processed and provides a signal to the noise tracker that pixel noise has been detected. A background tracker, which also forms part of the inventive apparatus, produces a background value that tracks a background level present in the incoming pixel values. The background value and the noise value are combined to produce an error signal which, in turn, is used, along with a deaveraged value of the current incoming pixel value, to set the threshold level for the current pixel value being processed. Specific apparatus for the background tracker and the noise tracker, and accompanying methods for use therein, are also disclosed herein.
