摘要： An apparatus and surgical staple are disclosed for endoscope application of the surgical staples for attaching surgical mesh to body tissue in laparoscopic hernia surgery. The surgical staple is formed of a length of wire having a central portion having a middle portion and end portions extending therefrom in a first direction. Wire leg members extend in a direction generally perpendicular to the middle portion. Bridge portions are provided to connect each leg member to the end portions of the central portion. The bridge portions each have a straight portion substantially parallel to the middle portion and extending away from the end portions of the central portion. A first generally arcuate portion connected to the straight portions has a concave surface portion facing in a direction generally inwardly toward the opposing leg member. The first generally arcuate portions are connected to the leg members and at least a portion of each arcuate portion extends from the straight portions and generally in the first direction. A second arcuate portion on the leg members connects the leg member to the first arcuate portion. The free ends of the leg members are sharp to penetrate the body tissue in a manner to attach the portion of the mesh to the body tissue.

摘要： A valve assembly adapted for introduction of an elongated object into a patient's body having a first valve formed of a resilient material and defining an aperture for reception of the object, the aperture being configured and dimensioned such that insertion of the object into the aperture will cause the resilient material defining the aperture to resiliently engage the outer surface of the object in a fluid tight manner. A second valve is positioned adjacent and distal of the first valve in general alignment therewith, whereby the second valve defines an aperture in general alignment with the aperture of the first valve, and is formed of a flexible material at least in the region defining the aperture. A pair of manually operable clamps are provided to selectively permit the aperture of the second valve to be opened or closed so as to permit entry of the object such that the object first passes through the first valve and then the second valve prior to entry into the patient's body.

摘要： A bioabsorbable surgical fastener comprising a fastener member and an interlocking retainer member. The surgical fastener has a total mass of less than 4 mg/transverse mm, thereby reducing the amount of foreign matter present at the wound site and facilitating faster resorption, while effecting hemostasis. The retainer member preferably has longitudinally extending slots on the lateral sides of the retainer for allowing transverse expansion of the columnar members into which the prongs of the fastener member are locked. Fins on both the lateral and transverse sides of the prongs provide extra strength, and stability during implantation. Stopping surfaces prevent the fastener's barbed tip from exiting the opposite side of the retainer.

摘要： The end-to-end anastomosis apparatus is provided with a mounting means which can receive a trocar for making holes in tissue and, subsequently, an anvil shaft for the mounting of an anvil assembly for stapling purposes. The anvil shaft is provided with splines which cooperate with splines on a shell liner within the housing of the apparatus to align the buckets on the anvil assembly with the staples in a cartridge secured in the apparatus. In addition, the anvil assembly is provided with a spring for locking of the anvil housing on the anvil shaft.

摘要： An anvilless surgical apparatus is provided for applying surgical fasteners to secure grafting material to a desired layer of tissue. The apparatus includes a housing having a nose portion at a distal end and a handle at its proximal end. A surgical fastener cartridge is mounted in the nose portion and is adapted to receive a plurality of surgical fasteners in longitudinal alignment therein. The cartridge is generally oriented substantially perpendicular to the handle. A drive shaft is provided within the housing for driving the surgical fasteners through the grafting material and at least partially into the layer of underlying tissue. The drive shaft is actuable by the handle and general has a pusher rod movable between a distal fired position and a retracted proximal loaded position. A releasing mechanism is provided in the handle for releasing the pusher rod from its retracted proximal position to cause it to thrust forward with sufficient force to contact a crown portion of a surgical fastener to drive it directly through the grafting material and at least partially into the tissue without forming a surgical fastener.

The valve includes, a valve housing having an upper body portion and a lower body portion and a generally spherical valve member. The upper and lower body portions of the housing define an internal chamber for accommodating the valve member and a central axis for the valve. The generally spherical valve member is seated within the internal chamber of the valve housing and has an axial bore extending therethrough. The valve member is mounted for movement between an open position; wherein the axial bore of the valve member is axially aligned with the inlet and outlet ports of the valve housing, and a closed position; wherein the axial bore of the valve member is out of alignment with the inlet and outlet ports of the valve housing. The valve assembly further includes a camming mechanism that is operatively associated with the valve housing and the valve member for moving the valve member between the open position and the closed position.

摘要： An apparatus for endoscopic application of surgical staples adapted to attach surgical mesh to body tissue includes a frame and an elongated endoscopic section connected to the frame-and extending distally therefrom. A staple storage cartridge is removably supported on a pivotal support system at the distal end portion of the endoscopic section. An elongated pusher system is provided for individually advancing at least one staple at a time distally. The pusher system includes a trigger system to actuate the pusher. The trigger system is provided with perceptible tactile sensing means to indicate when the legs of the staple being advanced are exposed so as to be visible to the user for positioning and orientation purposes.
