Abstract: Blood sample optimization systems and methods are described that reduce or eliminate contaminates in collected blood samples, which in turn reduces or eliminates false positive readings in blood cultures or other testing of collected blood samples. A blood sample optimization system can include a blood sequestration device located between a patient needle and a sample needle. The blood sequestration device can include a sequestration chamber for sequestering an initial, potentially contaminated aliquot of blood, and may further include a sampling channel that bypasses the sequestration chamber to convey likely uncontaminated blood between the patient needle and the sample needle after the initial aliquot of blood is sequestered in the sequestration chamber.

Abstract: A catheter hub assembly. The catheter hub assembly includes a catheter hub body, a septum and a septum retainer, the catheter hub body having a distal end, a proximal and an internal wall defining an internal fluid passageway therebetween, the internal wall defining a transitional step within the internal fluid passageway, the septum positioned within the internal fluid passageway such that a distal end of the septum abuts up against the transitional step, the septum retainer at least partially receivable within the internal fluid passageway and having an outer wall shaped and sized to interlock with the inner wall of the catheter hub body, the outer wall including one or more lateral ribs configured to inhibit rotation of the septum retainer relative to the catheter hub body.

Abstract: Hemostasis valves and methods for making and using hemostasis valves are disclosed. An example method for assembling a hemostasis valve may include positioning a plunger along a threaded proximal end region of a main body. The threaded proximal end region may include one or more threads and an axial slot extending through the one or more threads. The method may also include advancing the plunger along the threaded proximal end region to a position where a proximal end of the plunger is disposed distally of at least a portion of the one or more threads and disposing a nut adjacent to the threaded proximal end region. The method may also include aligning an alignment tab of the nut with the axial slot, engaging the nut with the one or more threads while the alignment tab is aligned with the axial slot, and rotating the nut 45-270°.

Abstract: A medical valve assembly includes a tube extending between a first tube end and a second tube end to define a passageway extending along a longitudinal axis between the ends. A plunger plate extends radially from the second tube end of the tube, and a valve housing surrounds the tube about the second tube end and extends from a first valve housing end to a second valve housing end. The urological valve is disposed in the bladder retainer at a location proximal to the support stem location and proximal to the proximal surface of the wall.

Abstract: An introducer sheath for percutaneous insertion of a heart pump includes a tubular sheath body having a wall, a proximal end portion, a distal end portion, and an inner lumen. The introducer sheath includes a hemostatic valve disposed in the proximal end portion and forming a liquid tight seal across the inner lumen of the tubular sheath body. The hemostatic valve includes a valve cavity having a distal end and a proximal end, a first annular restriction formed within the valve cavity and having a first diameter, and a second annular restriction formed within the valve cavity distal to the first annular restriction and having a second diameter. The distal end of the valve cavity is spaced from the second annular restriction by a gap distance and a third diameter of the valve cavity along the gap distance is about equal to or greater than the first and second diameters.
