摘要: Cavitation is reduced in a rotary pump while the pump performance is maintained by utilizing a low-temperature fluid source already present in the pump system. The fluid from the low-temperature fluid source receives heat from the fluid flowing to the pump, thereby lowering its temperature and the saturated vapor pressure, which increases the allowable margin for a decrease in fluid pressure and reduces the occurrence of cavitation. The pump system may be used for a liquid rocket engine. The fluid velocity of the fluid directed to the pump is low before releasing heat, so there is only a slight pressure loss at the pump. Accordingly, the temperature is lowered and the occurrence of cavitation is reduced within the pump.

摘要: An apparatus for demodulating bar codes is disclosed. In this apparatus of this invention, a distortion quantity calculation unit for calculates a distortion quantity of a bar width of a character to be demodulated by use of bar code data generated by reading the bar codes in which characters are expressed by bar widths. A distortion quantity determining unit determines whether or not a bar width distortion quantity calculated by the distortion quantity calculation unit falls within a range of predetermined values. A first demodulation unit, when determining that the distortion quantity of the bar width falls within the range of the predetermined values, demodulates the character from the bar code data by effecting a first correcting process on the bar width distortion quantity. A second demodulation unit, when determining that the distortion quantity of the bar width does not fall within the range of the predetermined values, demodulates the character from the bar code data by effecting a second correcting process on the distortion quantity of the bar width.

摘要: A bar code reader using a high speed scanner, containing: a scanning unit scanning a surface on which a bar code is printed; a bar width detecting unit successively detecting widths of bars; a bar width storing unit storing the widths; an address generating unit generating an address of the bar width storing unit at which each of the widths is to be stored; a fast screening unit determining whether a set of widths successively detected by the bar width detecting unit satisfies a predetermined condition for the set of widths constituting a complete bar code; and a bar code decoding unit reading a set of successive widths from the generated address, and decoding the bar code determined by the complete bar code detecting unit. A type of bar code detecting unit detecting a type of bar code constituted by the detected widths, and an address & type storing unit storing the detected type of bar code, together with information on the generated addresses for the widths of the bar code, may be inserted. The bar code decoding unit contains specific type decoding units for respectively decoding types of bar codes. The bar code decoding unit reads the stored widths from the addresses indicated by the information stored in the address & type storing unit, and decodes the bar code using one of the specific type decoding unit corresponding to the type stored in the address & type storing unit together with the above information.

摘要: A three-dimensional position-sensitive radiation detector is provided which has a three-dimensional array of photodetectors disposed on the surface of a scintillator block and which is capable of three-dimensionally identifying the position of light emission at which radiation has been detected within the detector. The three-dimensional position-sensitive radiation detector includes: a scintillator block including a central portion which restricts the direction of diffusion of light so as to direct the light in three axial directions and which has an optically discontinuous region, and an outer portion which is disposed on the outside of the central portion and which does not restrict the direction of diffusion of light; and photodetectors disposed on at least two outer circumferential surfaces of the scintillator block. The detector identifies three-dimensionally the position of light emission, thereby preventing deterioration in position discrimination performance even when inner scintillator elements are smaller than the photodetectors.

摘要: Measuring apparatus comprises a rotating plate 17, a torque detection plate 18 disposed on a same axis parallel to the plate 17 with a given gap, a torque sensor about the plate 18 through the specimen held between two plates. The plate 18 is a total reflection prism which is made from a material that has a greater refractive index than the specimen and transmits UV and infrared light. An ultraviolet beam is directed onto the specimen through the prism. An infrared beam is directed into the prism. The infrared beam emerging from the prism after total reflection from the interface between the prism and the specimen is detected. A signal processor analyzes the infrared absorption spectrum of the specimen on the basis of the infrared beam. While the viscosity of the specimen in the curing process is measured, the signal processor simultaneously measures the infrared absorption spectrum.
