Abstract:
An input device includes an optical waveguide, one or more light sources, one or more imaging sensors, and a translator. The optical waveguide has an input surface, a back surface substantially opposite the input surface, and a side surface therebetween. The input surface has a plurality of different input locations. The one or more light sources are positioned to introduce light into the optical waveguide. A distortion of each different input location of the input surface causes a portion of light within the optical waveguide to exit from the optical waveguide at a different escape location of the side surface. The one or more imaging sensors are positioned and aimed to detect an escape location of a portion of light exiting from the side surface. The translator determines an input location corresponding to the escape location for each detected escape location.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for implementing various aspects of a Reed-Solomon (RS) error-correction system. A detector can provide a decision-codeword from a channel and can also provide soft-information for the decision-codeword. If the decision-codeword corresponds to an inner code and an RS code is the outer code, a soft-information map can process the soft-information for the decision-codeword to produce soft-information for a RS decision-codeword. A RS decoder can employ the Berlekamp-Massey algorithm (BMA), list decoding, and a Chien search, and can include a pipelined architecture. A threshold-based control circuit can be used to predict whether list decoding will be needed and can suspend the list decoding operation if it predicts that list decoding is not needed.

Abstract:
The present invention relates generally to the fields of neuroscience, proteomics and mood disorders. More particularly, the present invention relates to the identification of a group of proteins modulated in subjects with a mood disorder; methods for detecting or screening mRNA encoding these proteins and methods for diagnosing mood disorders.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a system and method for attenuating harmonics in output signals. In the system, an electronic circuit for reducing harmonics of an output signal from a power amplifier in a transmission circuit for a wireless communication device is provided. The circuit comprises: a printed circuit board (PCB); a power amplifier for generating an output signal; and a circuit implemented on the PCB connected to an output terminal of the power amplifier for the output signal. The circuit comprises a first filtering stage; a delay element; and a harmonic filter. The delay element is located between the harmonic filter and the output terminal and the delay element provides a timing delay in the output signal through at least one 0 ohm-rated component. Also, the harmonic filter is a low pass filter having a frequency cut-off point that attenuates first order harmonics of the output signal.
Abstract:
In general, the present invention, and in various exemplary embodiments, provides a chemical management information system and methods of using the same. The chemical management system captures chemical use on an on-going and real-time basis regardless of the source of data. The chemical management system integrates chemical usage information by user input and from a plurality of sources. It also allows for the evaluation of a chemical in minutes rather than days, and further allows a user to submit this information to the governing body requiring the information in a simple step. In one embodiment, the chemical management system comprises a web-based use capture tool, a compliance tool, a safety database search tool, and a gap analysis tool.
Abstract:
It has been found that certain synthetic vectors and nucleic acid sequences that encode viral genomic sequences can, for example, be administered to a subject repeatedly as a vehicle for effectively delivering one or more therapeutic nucleic acid molecules or polypeptides to a cell or tissue. Accordingly, the disclosed nucleic acid delivery vehicles can be used, for instance, as part of a therapeutic regimen that involves an ongoing use of a therapeutic nucleic acid molecule or polypeptide.

A method of finding documents comprising, ranking documents according to relevance to form a ranked relevance list, ranking documents according to type to form a ranked type list, and interpolating the ranked relevance list and the ranked type list to form a list of documents ranked by relevance and type.
Abstract:
This invention concerns particulate reinforced Al-based composites, and the near net shape forming process of their components. The average size of the reinforced particle in the invented composites is 0.1–3.5 μm and the volume percentage is 10–40%, and a good interfacial bonding between the reinforced particulate and the matrix is formed with the reinforced particles uniformly distributed. The production method of its billet is to have the reinforced particles and Al-base alloy powder receive variable-speed high-energy ball-milling in the balling drum. Then, with addition of a liquid surfactant, the ball-mill proceeds to carry on ball-milling. After the ball-milling, the produced composite powder undergoes cold isostatic pressing and the subsequent vacuum sintering or vacuum hot-pressing to be shaped into a hot compressed billet, which in turn undergoes semisolid thixotropic forming and may be shaped into complex-shaped components. These components can be used in various fields. This product is featured with excellent property, good machinability, stable quality, component near net shape forming and cost effective and higher performance.
