Abstract:
A plasmonic display device is provided having dual modulation mechanisms. The device has an electrically conductive bottom electrode that may be either transparent or reflective. A dielectric layer overlies the bottom electrode, made from an elastic polymer material having a refractive index responsive to an electric field. An electrically conductive top electrode, either transparent or reflective, overlies the dielectric layer. A plasmonic layer, including a plurality of discrete plasmonic particles, is interposed between the top and bottom electrodes and in contact with the dielectric layer. In one aspect, the plasmonic layer is embedded in the dielectric layer. Alternately, the plasmonic layer overlies the bottom (or top) electrode. Then, the dielectric layer overlies the plasmonic layer particles and exposed regions of the bottom electrode between the first plasmonic layer particles.

A plasmonic display device is provided that uses physical modulation mechanisms. The device is made from an electrically conductive bottom electrode and a first dielectric layer overlying the bottom electrode. The first dielectric layer is a piezoelectric material having an index of expansion responsive to an electric field. An electrically conductive top electrode overlies the first dielectric layer. A first plasmonic layer, including a plurality of discrete plasmonic particles, is interposed between the top and bottom electrodes and in contact with the first dielectric layer. In one aspect, the plasmonic particles are an expandable polymer material covered with a metal coating having a size responsive to an electric field.
Abstract:
An apparatus is provided for loading a spring member secured on the apparatus. The apparatus includes a first mechanism for applying a translational loading to the spring member, and a second mechanism for applying a torsional loading to the spring member. The first mechanism includes a plurality of first elements, and the second mechanism includes a plurality of second elements. Each first element of the plurality of first elements is physically spaced apart from each second element of the plurality of second elements to aid in preventing interference between the first and second mechanisms during operation of the first and second mechanisms.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention relate to a data processing method comprising the steps of processing a first sample set associated with first results of tracking a target in a number of image frames using a first object classifier arranged to operate according to a first feature and processing a second sample set associated with second results of tracking the target in said number of image frames using a second object classifier arrange to operate according to a second feature, and using at least one of the first and second tracking results to influence at least one particle filter adapted to influence at least one of subsequent first and second tracking results.
Abstract:
Disclosed are cleaning solutions. More particularly, non-toxic solutions of base, water, alcohol and detergent, that effectively and surprisingly eliminate contaminating aliphatic acids in aqueous solutions. When present as a foam or even a contaminating film remaining on various parts and surfaces, aliphatic acid contaminants can be present a large and costly problem in manufacturing operations, cleaning tasks, personal hygiene. The need to remove such contaminants arises in a myriad environments and situations, such as during the manufacture of detergents, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, coring and core analysis, manipulation of oils, fuels, fermentation applications, manufacture of emollients, moisturizers, liquors, foods such as seafood, milk, butter and other dairy products, water processing, paper products, tissue culture, reusable clinical equipment, and the like. Presented are cleaning compositions and methods that effectively eliminate and prevent build up of such dangerous and costly contaminants in aqueous solutions.

Abstract:
A display device is provided for reflecting a black color, as enabled by an optical splitting photonic liquid crystal waveguide. Sets of top and bottom electrodes are formed in a periodic pattern. A first dielectric layer overlies the set of bottom electrodes, made from a liquid crystal (LC) material with molecules having dipoles responsive to an electric field. A plasmonic layer, including a plurality of discrete plasmonic particles, is interposed between the sets of top and bottom electrodes, and is in contact with the first dielectric layer. A voltage potential is applied between the top and bottom electrodes, generating an electric field. Dipole local orientation and non-orientation regions are created in the liquid crystal molecules in response to the electric field, and a wavelength of light outside the visible spectrum is reflected in response to optical spectrum splitting of the incident light.
Abstract:
In a method of processing a super-resolution target image from a plurality of substantially low resolution auxiliary frames, the target image is partitioned into a plurality of adaptively sized blocks, which are sized based upon registration confidence levels of the blocks obtained from information contained in the plurality of auxiliary frames. The blocks are classified into a plurality of different categories according to one or both of their respective registration confidence levels and their respective variance levels. In addition, separate enhancement modes designed to enhance the blocks are selected according to their respective classifications and applied on the blocks to enhance the target image.
Abstract:
One aspect of the present invention relates to a method for the kinetic resolution of racemic and diastereomeric mixtures of chiral compounds. The critical elements of the method are: a non-racemic chiral tertiary-amine-containing catalyst; a racemic or diastereomeric mixture of a chiral substrate, e.g., a cyclic carbonate or cyclic carbamate; and a nucleophile, e.g., an alcohol, amine or thiol. A preferred embodiment of the present invention relates to a method for achieving the kinetic resolution of racemic and diastereomeric mixtures of derivatives of α- and β-amino, hydroxy, and thio carboxylic acids. In certain embodiments, the methods of the present invention achieve dynamic kinetic resolution of a racemic or diastereomeric mixture of a substrate, i.e., a kinetic resolution wherein the yield of the resolved enantiomer or diastereomer, respectively, exceeds the amount present in the original mixture due to the in situ equilibration of the enantiomers or diastereomers under the reaction conditions prior to the resolution step.
